Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

MKV container change on DNS-323?

My wireless network isn't the best, transfers between my wireless PC and wired NAS go quite slowly, so for my downloaded media I prefer to torrent them directly to my DNS-323 via Transmission (installed with fun_plug), and play them on my PS3 from there, bypassing my PC altogether. Since the PS3 has supported XviD/DivX, this has been a really good solution most of the time, although I prefer HD media. When 720p XviD videos started becoming more commonplace, it was almost perfect, but the reality is that .MKV is still the standard, and occasionally something I'd like in HD is still ONLY available in that format.

On-the-fly transcoding doesn't seem to be able to keep up, but that doesn't seem necessary to me. I know there's a Windows program (MKV2VOB) which will remux the MKV file's video and audio streams into a VOB container without actually re-encoding anything. I'm wondering if there's a fun_plug package or something else that will allow me to do the same thing right on my DNS-323, without having to move it to my PC to do the work. If on the fly-trancoding should be possible, this seems quite a bit easier, but some searching has turned up nothing.

So I'm here asking if anybody has a working solution to this problem. Keep in mind I have plenty experience with windows but minimal experience with video (re)encoding (I generally have to refer to tutorials for even slightly new concepts), and absolutely none with linux/telnet/ssh, past what I've done with fun_plug, so I will probably need my hand held on this. If it's possible, that is.

Anyone who can help me get this works wins an unlimited supply of deluxe e-hugs big_smile

this can easily be done with mplayer. but i guess you need plenty of time (like a couple of hours per file)
