V1.02 firmware experience...

on V1.02:

Okay, I have a new DNS-323 (8 hour old) ... I noticed that

+ EXT3 is not available
+ No defrag tools

I notice that I can't get foreign language unicode support for filenames in other languages that use unicode?  They all show up as gobbledygook?  Any ideas?  Still playing around with the box.

Re: V1.02 firmware experience...

So far, this is what I found in the new firmware 1.02:

The Disk Utilities (Scan Disk and Defragment) have been removed and the Ext3 format is no longer supported.

There is a new System Shutdown option under Tools > System > Shutdown.

The names of the hard drives have been changed from HDD_1 and HDD_2 to Volume_1 and Volume_2.

There is improvement on the accuracy of the RAID format capacity calculator. For example: I have two 320GB hard drives on RAID 1, before the Total Hard Drive Capacity was 303109MB, now with the new firmware, it is 312844MB. Also my Unused Space has been increased about 9500MB.

I will continue checking my box...

Re: V1.02 firmware experience...

Looks like the format menu doesn't work under MSIE6 (I had to use FF2)

..and I still have to "touch" the Network Access rules after each restart to make the shares accessible from other computers..

Re: V1.02 firmware experience...

Another fix found on 1.02

The FTP Server remains on the last status after a restart. Before on 1.01, when it was on stop mode, it was starting itself after a restart. Now, you can stop it (disabled), and it will remain on that status until you start it manually.

Yeah, but have you tried changing port without adding a user rule at the same time? wink

Re: V1.02 firmware experience...

Does anybody know if the Firmware 1.02 is for the US units only, or if both US and EU units (HW revision A1)?

Thanks.

Re: V1.02 firmware experience...

I updated to v1.02 on the 20th, and this morning I found my DNS-323 frozen solid, not even the power/reset button on the front was working.. sad

..but AFAICT, it works as before after a hard power off/on

Re: V1.02 firmware experience...

Recently I upgraded to 1.02.  I have 2 320gb WD drives set up to mirror (RAID1 i think) and ext2.  I upgraded a few weeks ago and everything is fine.  I read you must reformat the drives when you upgrade but isnt that only if you are using ext3?

Re: V1.02 firmware experience...

As i know, after checking both US/EU firmware, seems that no differences on their UI design, so the 1.02 firmware should work fine on both US/EU version. And according to some other guys on other forum, seems that reformat the drives after updating to 1.02 is only needed when you were using a ext3 filesystem.

Hello MiK, did the power led keep blinking in this situation??? I have met this issue before, but after trying several times power on/off, my unit works fine now.

Re: V1.02 firmware experience...

Yes, the AFAICT the boot might have taken longer than normal, but I'm not 100% sure

This message is from D-link:

**WARNING** Read Before Upgrading Firmware

"New firmware (1.02) for the DNS-323 often affects the way hard drives
are formatted and the way files are handled.

To avoid potential complications and loss of files, please back
up all files to another location before upgrading firmware.

After the upgrade, re-format your hard drives.

Once the hard drives have been re-formatted, it will be safe
to move your files back onto the DNS."

Well, this morning it happened again, but this time it didn't really "freeze", only the web interface and the power button stopped working (I could still access the files).. ..so is there a safe way to restart the DNS-323 without using the web interface or the power button?

Btw, looks like it took just as long to "freeze" as last time, so perhaps it needs to be restarted once a week or so?
