BACKGROUND:
My DNS-323 has two 2T Hitachi HDs, Raid 1 configuration.
I have successfully configured my DNS-323 by connecting it to laptop#1.
IP Address: 192.168.0.32
Successfully mapped Vol_1 to G: drive in laptop#1
My router is Linksys WRT350N
PROBLEM: Cannot map laptop#2 to DNS-323 Vol_1
-I connected DNS-323 directly to laptop#2
-Disabled all firewalls
-Run D-Link Easy Share Utility. It showed the network storage device, the Volume, Available Drive Letters, but the CONNECT and DISCONNECT buttons are greyed out.
I called D-Link tech support - they said that my problem was the firewall. But I disabled all known firewalls.
Can anyone please give me other suggestions on how to map laptop#2 to the network drive?
Thanks in advance

Based on the "greyed out" symptom you mention and the statement quoted above, I would suspect your ip addressing to be the problem. If you are going to connect the DNS-323 directly to a computer, rather than connect them both to an existing network, you will need to either set static ip addresses or to enable the DNS-323's DHCP server.
The DNS-323 is a NAS (network attached storage) server, and although it can be connected directly to a single computer via it's ethernet port, this is not how it's designed to be used - I would strongly suggest connecting them both to an existing network.

Thank you for replying to my post. I figured it's IP addressing problem, but I don't know much about troubleshooting IP-related problems.
When D-Link tech support guided me through the install, I was told to connect the DNS-323 to my laptop, because when I tried to configure the unit by connecting DNS-323 to the Linksys router, I was not getting an IP address. By connecting the DNS-323 to my laptop, he did something about setting up a static IP address by going through the network management, etc. (I don't recall what we did). When I finally got the IP address, I was able to map a drive (G
to Vol_1.
Then, when I connected the DNS-323 to the router, my laptop can see the G: drive (and all its folders), but using a browser, the laptop cannot connect to http://192.168.0.32 (is the latter case normal?).
I have 2 other computers in the house and I would like those 2 to see the drive. So I tried doing what D-link tech support told me: to connect DNS-323 to laptop#2, and this is the problem that I'm getting: I can see the IP address on DSN-323 but the CONNECT / DISCONNECT buttons are greyed out.
Is there a thread somewhere that would guide me in fixing this problem? As I mentioned earlier, I disabled all firewalls to do the connect, still those buttons are greyed out. It's useless calling DLink's tech support as they seem to not want to be involved in any IP-related issues.
P.S. I do understand RAID1 is for disk redundancy - I'm not using it as data backup.

There is a strong probability that your Linksys router issues ip addresses in the 192.168.1.x network range and not the 192.168.0.x range that the DNS-323 defaults to.
If you don't have the skills and the knowledge to configure ip addresses, I think it's time to call for help - one site help - find someone in your neck of the words who can stop by and deal with it - it's a 15 minute affair (or less) someone who knows what he's about, and a frustration for someone who doesn't.
In an ideal situation you would be able to take the DNS-323 out of the box, plug in the drives, plug it in to the router, plug in the power and turn it on. Load the Easy Search Utility on your laptop and away you go - but at this stage when neither you nor I know exactly what was done to either the NAS or the laptop, you're looking at grief.
Call Geeksquad or whoever.
