I inherited a DNS-323 Rev B1 from a friend who had a bad firmware update and the nas was not booting any longer.
I've been trying to rewrite the flash to the latest manufacturer firmware for quite a while with no success.
Every time I try to rewrite the flash I get a kernel I/O error like the following:
[42954010.510000] MTD do_erase_oneblock(): software timeout
[42954010.510000] mtdblock: erase of region [0x150000, 0x10000] on "Linux Kernel" failed
[42954010.510000] end_request: I/O error, dev mtdblock2, sector 2816
[42954010.510000] Buffer I/O error on device mtdblock2, logical block 352
[42954010.510000] lost page write due to I/O error on mtdblock2
I've attempted the rewrite using uBoot's copy command, the DLink web interface and using the cat and dd commands from within the Debian installer environment.
I'm curious if anyone else has run into an issue like this and if so have you been able to successfully recover? I'm starting to wonder if the flash memory itself is defective and simply cannot be written to.
