Impossible to change the Workgroup - FW1.08

Hi,

I have migrated to the fw1.08  and it appears that it is not possible for me to change the Workgroup of the DNS-323, I would like to rename it to the same I have on my network i.e. "Dublin".

Has somebody encountered the same issue ? any idea on how to fix this ?

Thanks !

PS: I have attached a screenshot of what is happening

Re: Impossible to change the Workgroup - FW1.08

I've been on 1.08 (albeit beta?) since I bought my DNS and had no problem.
Just had a quick look and I can change my workgroup from that tab.

Have you tried going through the wizard and seeing if you can do it there.?

Another thing to keep in mind if you do change it is that it can take a few minutes for the other PC's on the network to "see" the change.

Re: Impossible to change the Workgroup - FW1.08

hello,

I have been trying via the interface of course, once i submit changes it loads the page and refresh it then fields i have populated come back blank. Dunno why...

Question though, if i reset the hardware to the default setting to force the clearing of the nvram, am i going to loose the data stored on the hdd ? I just dont want to have to reprocess the hdd config you are asked to do at the early beginning of the setup...

Thanks

No - a reset to default does not affect the data stored on the hard drive.  What I believe it will do, however, is delete the users & groups that you have configured.

Re: Impossible to change the Workgroup - FW1.08

Did you reset the unit?

Can you add users or shares (folders)?

I would try reinstalling FW 1.08 if possible.  Maybe install 1.07 and then try 1.08 again.

You may get some better answers/support in the D-Link users forums, since this is a routine firmware issue, and not so much a "hack".  You're not hacking anything here with a custom fun_plug here, right?  If not, I'd take the issue to D-Link, but I would try reinstalling the FW first.

On FW 1.07:

The information used to fill in that menu probably comes from /etc/samba/smb.conf or /dev/mtdblock0.  At boot time, the DNS mounts /dev/mtdblock0 onto /sys/mtd1 and copies smb.default to /etc/samba.  Then it runs a program that takes smb.default and adds on your defined users and shares to make /etc/samba/smb.conf.  Then it unmounts /sys/mtd1.

But something has probably gone wrong with this sequence and we can't tell unless you telnet/ssh in and look to see what files are in /etc/samba.

The web config page should be modifying the smb.conf file in /dev/mtdblock0, and perhaps that is failing for some reason.

I don't know if anything there has changed in 1.08.
