File copy

Good day,
I would like to do a file copy but only if source file is newer then existing one. So I was using following command:
cp –u fileA fileA
However the command above doesn’t work. I’m wondering if –u parameter is not supported or I’m doing something wrong.
I’ve installed fun-plug 0.5 and using Putty over SSH.
I’m totally new to Linux and or my knowledge coming from googling… and this forum.
Thanks
