Mount USB disk with chroot Debian

can I mount an external usb disk in a chroot Debian environment on my DNS323? I have tried installing the usb-storage module and the NTFS module and the install without error however checking messages I see no sign of my USB device being recognised, nor does it show up using fdisk -l.

Am I doing this the wrong way?  I like the advantages of having the Debian environment (not that I'm a Linux power user) and I'd rather not have to toggle between funplugs to get USB functionality

Re: Mount USB disk with chroot Debian

Ok...so it seems to be a compatibility issue with my external drive. I've been trying to get a 250GB Western Digital USB drive to work but it doesn't register with the USB module at all. When I tried another drive it came up at sdc1 no worries. Perhaps I should add this disk to the USB disk compatibility thread.

Sorry for the waste of a thread.
