easy_search only finds one unit

I have a problem with easy_search that has recently developed.

I have four DNS-323s.  Up to a few weeks ago, easy_search has worked ok - it found all four units, no problems.  From there I have mapped drive letters and called up the drives to update functions - password; firmware; fan settings, formatting and suchlike (and maybe one day the time setting whenever it is fixed!).  All worked as advertised.

All four can be accessed by their 192.168.0.xxx address.
All four units can be accessed by their mapped drive letters p: q: r: and so on.

But as of today today easy_search only finds one DNS-323.

I have looked at the known problems page and searched this forum.
Checked the firewall setup.  Windows firewall is off and zone alarm is set to allow easy_search access to trusted zone and access to the internet.  Addresses that cover these drives are open to firefox by address 192.168.0. etc, which says they are not blocked.
McAfee is set to allow easy_search to run.  This includes running from a temporary directory.  The log says this programme would be blocked if common standard setting was set, which it is not.  (I am fairly new to McAfee).

So one drive out of four drives is found by easy_search and the 'usual suspect' programmes are not in blocking mode.
It is the same for both easy_search 4400 and e_s 4700.  Each programme only finds one (the same) unit.
I find e_s useful for mapping drives.

Any ideas what is restricting easy_search?

Ta in advance

Re: easy_search only finds one unit

First - I have no idea why easy search should only find one of four units - however - I am curious as to why you would need to be constantly mapping or remapping the drives, should it not be a set & forget affair?

Re: easy_search only finds one unit

If only . . .
I was actually curious to know why easy_search only sees one drive out of four present.

Mapping drives is probably off topic here, but in answer to a reasonable question:-

Win XP seems to lose the mapping from time to time - don’t know why either - about once a month.  Easy_search is the easiest I know of to restore this.

Every time I install a new and bigger hard drive I pull the other one.  Once bitten with the wrong drive format . . , and no I don’t trust the new firmware.  When the new drive is formatted, the letter allocation is all messed up.  Firmware 1.08 decides to swap the left right bay around and hence the volume_1 and volume_2 allocation is changed.  Say it is the left hand drive that is replaced; the unit has to be restarted with the (old) right drive in it on its own; remap; restart with both drives installed; (likely reset the DNS-323; enter password; fixed address; waste effort trying to set the time [who knows when the clocks change? - the PC changes automatically . . .]; set the fan; AND SO ON); remap the letters again.

When one unit is updated with a bigger disc, the other (DNS backup) units need to be 'disc enlarged' too.  And then backing up onto the new disc of each unit say 800 gig is a long process.

If you have ever updated drives you must surely have come across this rigmarole.

Re: easy_search only finds one unit

To be honest - I've never needed to swap (or update) the drives on my DNS-323, it's not used as primary storage, but as a backup - I do however use a process similar to the one you describe when upgrading disks in other equipment.

In my experience, however, in small SOHO networks as well as all the commercial installations I have done, drive mappings have been a set & forget affair, and this dates back to the early '90's and DOS (where drive mappings are done through a script that runs at startup), and pretty much every version of Windows ever released, which suggests that there may be an underlying network infrastructure problem causing your setup to lose it's mapping.
