DNS-323 some problems

HI Every1!

Not so late i installed on my DNS-323 a lenny, i think i had success, but maybe not..... (dmesg and hdparm output is attached)

I think maybe i have problems with my network controller / samba configuration / network configuration...
I have a Cisco WRVS4400N gigabit router at home.

Maybe the problem is, that if i read any DNS-323 forum, i see in every time egiga0 network interface and not eth0 like my.
If i attached the DNS to the network it shows that he is connected with Giga Speed with flow control disabled. ( i tried with the ethtool to make the network speed and duplex to 1000/full paralell with the switch side too...)

The problem is if i make a copy from the samba share i could only copy with 4-5 MB/sec. (I tried this form an another machine with gigabit ethernet controller). If i see the hdparm read count and compare it to this number then it is awfull...

So the questions:
- It is newer/better kernel for the DNS-323?
- Is this network intarface name/configuration good (how could i better)?
- Could i activate the flow-control functionallity on the network interface?
- Would the network troughput better if i use NFS server on the DNS-323 (or how could be better?)?

Thank You for any help, rtfm, or idea

with best regards,

Re: DNS-323 some problems

Hm, lets see the additional information:

i have 2 pcs. 500 GB HDD in md-raid and the fs type is ext3.

The running softwares are:
- apache - no load
- torrentflux (some load)
- samba
- proftpd - no load
- ssh

if i see the box, it is a small home/internet server for my pourposes... I run on it  cca. 10 pcs. torrent whats network load is max. 100 KB/sec.
The proftpd and the apache is used minimal (1/monthly), so this should work, but i understand while not....

Do You have eth0 network interface too, or egiga0?

thank You,

SirFrankie
