Device very unstable

Hi all,

I am having some issues with my DNS-323 it seems very unstable.

First I have some rights issues, sometimes I cannot access the files, I wait and then they are back.

The device itself seems unaccessible I tried with Mac and Windows client to access via UNC same thing sometimes I can and sometimes I cannot. This might goes with the first issue.
For example if I launch a copy it always fails because the network source is unavailable. I have to use SuperCopier and check "Always retry" and it works.

I have already sent the device for changing and I still have the same issue.

Somebody has the same issue ?

Thanks

Re: Device very unstable

Do you have the device configured for static or dynamic ip addressing, if dynamic do you have a DHCP reservation set?
How are you trying to access the device - by name or by ip address - if by name, do you have a local DNS server or are you using the hosts file to handle name resolution?

Re: Device very unstable

No I am using the IP to access it and no DHCP.

The router is a Netgear if that helps but I don't have this kind of issue between other devices in my network.

Do you think that your device is "Stable" ?

There is something I will try as well but I don't really know if I can. I tried many thing on my device and may have left files or so. So I wanted to know how to clean everything and go back in a nice and clean way.

See a copy of an ls -l on the HD_a2. In this folder there a lots of stuff (beside my personal folders). I don't know what I can remove and what I can't.

root@dlink:/mnt/HD_a2# ls -l

Also what about the root (all before HD_a2) folders am I right assuming that nothing as been written there as it's in the memory of the device ?
If no how can I clean this as well ?

Thanks

Re: Device very unstable

it sounds like wireless connection drops.  are you connected via wireless to your router? if so, then that's your problem.

Re: Device very unstable

I am not sure about the wireless, if I remember well I tried already, but I'll try again.

A wireless issue would give me a right issue ?

Like the proverbial rock - and has always been since I acquired it in January of 2007.

If you're using static ip addressing and accessing it by it's ip address, then any problem with your being unable to access it would point to a network infrastructure issue.

Re: Device very unstable

But to me it doesn't look like network issues but more right or something. I will try anyway to connect directly to the NAS and see how it goes.

I an other way, somebody can tell me how to clean all the devices. I'm sure there are files that shouldn't be there anymore...

The two excerpts I have quoted from your first post suggest network issues.
