Hi,
Please excuse the possibly newbie question but,
I have a hard disk working fine off my DNS323 with f/w 1.08.
I used to have my laserjet IIP printer hanging off a desktop which is now no longer working, so I have used a USB to Parallel cable to connect to the printer and plugged into a USB hub which comes off the NAS.
Now windows detected the printer as lp on DNS323 and I installed the drivers in Vista for that printer.
However in properties no port is selected and all the buttons to Add/Delete/Configure a port are disabled.
If I print a test page, it appears in the queue, activity starts on the NAS, the document goes to Paused, but nothing goes to the printer.
Printer info on the NAS only shows Cypresss semiconductor, USB 2 storage.
Is it possible to have both printer and drive hanging off the NAS at the same time, or do I need to get a print server.?
I could understand just one or the other, but why did Vista discover the printer if that was the case.?
TIA

I don't think the USB hub should be a problem. But you can try to connect only the printer, maybe the USB to parallel converter is the problem.

Thanks, I planned on taking out the disk today and just trying the printer, then again via the hub.
I need the disk more than the printer though, so a print server might be necessary.

Just quickly tried removing disk and usb-storage.ko driver. Plugged printer in directly to NAS and nothing comes up on the status screen of the NAS.
Plugged lead into laptop, installed the drivers and prints fine, so lead works as far as windows is concerned.
Seems a print server is required.
One more power socket required. :-)

Seems a print server is required.
Or a driver (kernelmodule) for your adapter.

Way, way beyond my expertise. :-)
