DNS321 + USB

Hi! I've had my dns321 for about 2-3 weeks now. I got a second one a week later. Both have been updated to firmware 1.03 and have fun_plug installed.
I recently noticed that my drives wouldn't hibernate on one of the two NAS and started digging in! (turns out it has something to do with lighttpd and my windows 7 machine from my tests)

Programs running at start up on NAS1: (this is the one that wouldn't hibernate)
Lighttpd v1.4.25(stoped)
mysqld v5.1.28(stoped)
inetd (for swat) (stoped)
sshd v5.2
vsftpd v2.0.7(stoped)
samba v3.4.6 (used to this this was the source of the problem)

Programs running at start up on NAS2:
inetd (for swat)
sshd v5.2
vsftpd v2.0.7
samba v3.4.6 (I think... otherwise it's the original)

Anyway I figure if I want to host a website on one of these running the server on a usb key instead of the hard drive might help in letting the hdd hibernate.
Now this would have been easier if I had 2 dns323!! Since I could only find 321s and they don't have usb ports on them here's my question!

Does anyone have the knowhow on how to connect a usb flash drive or even a usb connecter to the board in these 321? I would guess it's easy with this:

but I sadly don't know the pin numbers I need. Now that I think about it... could it be as simple as copiing the stripe order on the connection?

If you can help on this issue (or even see where I went wrong with the servers) all help is welcomed!
(btw I did search but all the info I turn up leads to 323s so the usb part is still relevant)
Thanks, PC!

Re: DNS321 + USB

You can find the USB pin out here - but be warned, there are other components that are missing from the board - from your picture I can see F1 missing, I'm almost certain there are others - and you'd probably need to hack the firmware as well.

Re: DNS321 + USB

What is this F1 you say I'm missing? I'm not much of a hardware buff.

Re: DNS321 + USB

Look at your picture - just above and to the right of the pads for the USB socket you'll see two pads labelled F1 - they are for a fuse that protects against short circuits on the USB power bus.  There are also several capacitors missing which may or may not relate to the USB function.

If you're not a "hardware buff" forget about adding a USB port, buy a DNS-323 and sell the 321.

Re: DNS321 + USB

so if usb isn't an option (and I'd rather avoid having to buy a new DNS323 at least for now) is there an alternative way to get programs running of the hdd?
