Anyone know if there are instructions posted anywhere on how to build from source for the DNS323? I'd offer to do it, if I knew how

Sorry guys for not replying lately. Usually I get an email informing me about ne posts, but that didn't happen for some reason. I also didn't know about 2.01. Guess I'm rather busy these days
I'll prepare a new package tonight, and I'll try to answer any outstanding questions as well.

Kylek, I updated my DNS to v1.08 and suddenly I can't access transmission. Is there something that I should know?
Can you help please?
Thanks.

Well, first please describe what you mean by "can't access Transmission":
I presume the web interface doesn't load?
Have you checked if Transmission is running? (on the console)
Does the logfile say anything? (/mnt/HD_a2/.transmission-daemon/transission-daemon.log)
First thing I would try is to start with a fresh new profile. I know it can be a hassle to set everything up from scratch, especially when you have many seeding torrents (which would need to be rechecked by Transmission), but sometimes that's the only thing that helps.
To test this, rename the folder /mnt/HD_a2/.transmission-daemon to something else (don't delete it, you might want to go back later and salvage some stuff), and then follow the instructions from the first post, as if you would set up Transmission for the first time.
I myself do not own the DNS-323, I have the CH3SNAS which is essentially the same hardware, but different firmware.
However, if you check some pages of this thread, there was a person that had upgraded to the 1.08 firmware and had problems as well. If I could only remember who it was.

I can't load the GUI at port 9091.
From daemon log, it shows:
[15:59:01.939] transmission-daemon Error loading config file -- exiting. (daemon.c:421)
If I were to install transmission and automatic again, will all the settings changed or it will not be affected?
Thanks.

Well, that Error message is rather telling: something is wrong with your settings.json (located in the .transmission-daemon directory)
Most likely there is a stray comma at the end of the file. There also might me tools that validate JSON code that can tell you precisely what's wrong.
I'm pretty sure all is well when you delete that file, but you'll have to reconfigure.

Before upgrading to 1.08, transmission worked fine. This problem happened after upgrade.
So, is this means I need to reinstall transmission then?

Hm. If Transmission stayed the same and you only updated the firmware, it can only be a permission issue. Check that the Transmission settings folder still exists and that Transmission has read rights for the folder and the file settings.json.

Sorry for the delay, guys, but Transmission v2.01 is now available from the first post.
Nothing too major in this build, but we're all bleedin' updaters, aren't we :)

Thanks for the update!

kylek, it turned out there is NO settings.json.
I uninstalled transmission and reinstall it again and still did not find the file.
Can you or anyone send me default settings.json file?
Thanks.

Is there a way to upload torrents from sites (private trackers) that require cookies? I can't find any support for cookies in Transmission.

Transmission creates a new settings.json if one is not available. Apparently it can't do so on your machine, which is why it quits with an error.
Check the access rights of the folder /mnt/HD_a2/.transmission-daemon.
The folder (and all its subfolders and files) should belong to user "nobody". Files and folders should have acess rights 0755.
You can easily change the permissions:
$ chown -R 501 /mnt/HD_a2/.transmission-daemon $ chmod -R 0755 /mnt/HD_a2/.transmission-daemon

You mean by directly providing the URL in the web UI or on the command-line? No, Transmission has no functionality for that.
I can't even think of a use-case for this. What would be the user's gain?
Just download the files with your browser and add them manually.

I've tried that but the files don't get added. I figured it was because the cookies were on the PC and Transmission is running on the NAS. I also tried adding the cookie information (uid, pass) to the URL, but that didn't seem to work either. I'm not certain I tried the right format or even if it's supported anyway. I would have tried adding the torrent through Automatic, but the site doesn't provide RSS feeds.

Those torrents require cookie information while downloading from the tracker? I've never seen that before. How do other clients deal with it?
I would assume that something else is wrong here. Can you check the logs to see if they contain any info as to why the torrent could not be added?
Offline
This is what happens when I try to add a torrent from the site:
[21:01:19.144] Invalid metadata entry "info" (metainfo.c:564)
Maybe it's a bug?

You should probably report this to the Transmission developers. http://trac.transmissionbt.com, or directly on IRC: irc.freenode.net, #transmission

Kylek, thank you for your work! It works great on my DNS-321!

KyleK, tried as suggested but it gave me these:

Hi Kylek,
I have got a little problem with my Transmission. I had insatlled it on my Planex NAS an it works but after a day, sometimes less or more than a day, Transmission closses its session. So I have to restart it and then it works again. Why is it doing this and what can I change to solve this problem?
