i was trying to get my iTunes server working to my PC laptop and had it show up, but for some reason, iTunes wanted a password to access the D-Link. i don't recall ever entering a password for iTunes on the DNS 323, so i tried some different random passwords but ultimately failed.
so i went into the D-Link DNS to try to change the password and when i tried to change the iTunes server settings, i kept getting an message that could not load webpage. i tried again and again and i only get that message from the iTunes server page of the D-link admin setup and only when i try to click on any of the other links to take me out of that page. now iTunes server doesn't work, and the drives won't spin down.
i looked this up and apparently i can Telnet into the DNS to delete some file but i can't seem to access it through Terminal in OS X 10.5. i get a message, 'unable to connect to host'.
any suggestions? thanks!

OK. um, can anyone tell me if i can go back to the default settings on the DNS 323 using the web interface, will my data stay in tact or will it wipe them?

well i seem to have fixed the issue by restoring to factory default settings. then i went back and tried the iTunes server again and the same issue didn't seem to reappear. not a very dramatic fix, but it seems to work.
i did run into one minor issue. under My Network Places on my laptop running XP, i was able to see the DLink and the 'web' folders, but with a strange name in parentheses ('(dlink-#####)'). when trying to open the folders, it timed out with a permissions error. i restarted the computer and my DNS 323 appeared normally again and i could access it, but the two dead links were still there. i just deleted them and everything seems to be OK. weird.
