CH3SNAS with WD20EARS

I'm looking to replace my hard-disks in the CH3SNAS box with two 2.0TB WD SATA/64MB Cache WD20EARS drives.

I have upgraded my firmware to 1.05 - which is the latest?

Now when I turn on my Conceptronic box and login as I get to the following page:

HARD DRIVE CONFIGURATION:

Select a RAID type:   Standard (Individual Disks)

JBOD (Linear - Combines Both Disks)
RAID 0 (Striping - Best Performance)
RAID 1 (Mirroring - Keeps Data Safe)

HARD DRIVE SETTINGS:
       12233
HARD DRIVE SETTINGS:
The replacement hard drive does not have enough capacity to support   the RAID 1 volume. Please insert a higher capacity hard drive.

Vendor  Model  Serial Number  Size
WDC  WD20EARS-00S8B1  WD-WCAVY2111531  2000 GB
WDC  WD20EARS-00S8B1  WD-WCAVY2126418  2000 GB

If I select an option and click next the screen remains on the formatting please wait page and formating never actually starts. I have left this overnight just to double check but that status bar does not change or even go to 0%.

Any tips would be appreciated. I'm looking to use the Disks as RAID1

Latest is 1.05b5, you can download it from Conceptronic's website.

Check that the disks are completely blank. If you have made a partition on them, the CH3SNAS might have problems with it. It happened to me once, and I had to manually wipe the drive's information (at least a few hundred of MBs from the beginning) in order for the CH3SNAS to recognize them an partition/format them correctly.

To wipe the drive's information I just used a normal computer/laptop, a SATA-2-USB adapter, and an Ubuntu CD. Booted the CD, went to a terminal, and did a dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdX (wait a few minutes, then pressed control-c). Be careful of which /dev/sdX device you're using!!!

Also remember that you may want to choose what to do regarding the 4k partition alignment feature of the WDxxEARS drives...
