I'm having a few issues with NFS on the DNS-321 and one big one is user/group ownership of files. I back up files from a suite of programs that includes data files that have to be owned by certain programs, but if I mount my DNS-321 volumes on the other system through NFS, then rsync them, I can't change ownership of my files.
I tried editing /etc/exports so guest users were not forced to use 501 as an id, but I found that with each reboot /etc/exports is rewritten.
1) Is there any way to stop /etc/exports (and, presumably, other config files) from being re-written at boot?
2) How can I have different user and group numbers for rsyncing over NFS? (There are a number of different programs, like MySQL, so setting up a lot of users on DNS-321 would be a major pain.)
Thanks!
