Something strange is going on in my 323... I have two WD10EADS (1Tb each) in raid 1 in it.
When I try to copy a file of about 150Gb from an external eSata disk into the NAS under Seven 64bit, after about an hour the copy stops, the NAS is no longer accessible and I have the right hd light blinking blue... I searched the manual, but does not mention anything about blinking BLUE light for hdds (shouldn't it be purple on hd's failure?).
The NAS is linked to a LinkSys WRT610N GigaLan router and the net has static IPs.
Can someone help me?

150Gb - that's a large file. See ext2/3 has limits on file sizes: here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ext3#Size_limits
You can try dumpe2fs (http://linux.die.net/man/8/dumpe2fs) from telnet/ssh to see if that's what happening.

Thanks for your replay, but it seems to me I've copied larger files in the past... however, does anyone know what the hd blinking blue light stands for?
May I try another type of filesystem to exclude this problem from the list?

The blinking light just means there's HD activity going on.

Amber LED indicates hdd failure

Ok, but if you have a RAID 1 array configured, both lights should blink blue when there's activity going on, shouldn't they?
In my case, as I start the copy, I have the Net activity led and both hds leds blinking blue, but after about an hour the copy stops (I get the "Retry/Cancel" Windows's box) the Net led and the left hd led are still, the right hd led blinks blue and - NOTE - I have to unplug power cable to gain control on the NAS. At the next power on, in the Staus tab I have "Sync Time Remaining: 167.8 minute(s)" and this time Net activity led is still, both hd's led blink blue regularly.
Doesn't it seem like a RAID failure? Maybe my DNS-323 hasn't the amber led working... :-(((

Sorry, It was unclear you're using RAID1.
Other than that large file, are you experiencing other problems?
Does WD10EADS support TLER? Maybe that's the reason for the problem? You can read about TLER here:
http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/nas/nas- … r-raid-nas
Did you run scandisk?
From the manual, page 7 (available here: ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Multimedia/dns323/M … al_130.zip)
Drive Lights:
These lights will be solid BLUE when drives are connected but inactive. The lights will blink when the drives are being accessed, formatted or synchronized. They will illuminate AMBER if a drive has failed.

No, no other problem...

I've read form the link you posted, but still I'm not sure if the WD10EACS (not WD10EADS!) supports thi feature or not.
But the point is I used those two hd in RAID 1 since some months and had non problem... I have 4 of those hd, two in an Icy-Box RAID1 eSata box and two into the DNS. I do daily incremental backups with Acronis TrueImage 2010 with the box as destination; then I use SincBack Pro to copy the image files from the box into the NAS. Well, I've used this system in the last past year without any issue.
Basically the problem is fot the first image file that is about 148Gb, the other are incremental backups, but I'm sure I've created even bigger images...
Did you run scandisk?
I'm checking the right hd with WD Data LifeGuard...
From the manual, page 7 (available here: ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Multimedia/dns323/M … al_130.zip)

That's something I can't really understand, as the leds in my NAS behave different... I've no amber light, left hd and net leds still, right hd led blinking blue! I searched the web but found nothing like that... :-(
By the way, the last array sincronization failed and said "array degradated" or something like that.

You wrote you have 2 x WD10EADS. To the best of my knowledge they do not support TLER.
Compare the features of the WD10EADS (http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=559) and the enterprise-oriented RAID-specific features of WD1002FBYS (http://www.wdc.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=503).
The fact that you've used these drives for months without a problem doesn't help rule-out this explanation, I'm afraid.
How about looking at the S.M.A.R.T. data before and after copying this file? Did you try that?

Sorry, my mistake... I have 2 EADS (into the Icy-box) and 2 EACS (into the DNS).

I'm still working with Data LifeGuard on the first disk... by the way, I've tried copy the 148Gb file from the box into another hd directly plugged into the mobo's controller... I'm experiencin problems also in this case... nut the file is ok, I can open it and extract files...

Never mind... found the problem: 2 out of 4 hds have bad sectors, 1 from the Icy-Box and 1 from the NAS.
Maybe has appened during the last heavy rain with several lightings a few days ago... :-(

Ps. the only thing that remains unanswered is "what the hell does it mean 1 hd led blinking blue??!?" ;-)
