Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

After learning recently that transferring files from HD_a2 to HD_b2 via Windows Explorer involves the files being routed from the NAS to the PC, and back to the NAS, I am no longer going to copy them between drives in that fashion. Using Putty to the DNS323 via SSH, the copy goes LIGHTNING fast. This comes after upgrading the two Seagate 7200.10 ST3500630AS, to two WD20EARS drives. 1 of them has successfully been re-formatted to allow for the 4k sectors. Thats when I started moving files around. For comparison's sake, 300 meg video takes 7+ minutes from Windows Explorer on 802.11G, took (rough estimate) around 30 seconds or less via SSH. The ONLY draw back to this, is lack of any indication of duration, or progress aside from monitoring the data moved/copied with Explorer.
Is there a way to have a progress bar, or some kind of text with percentages, or xx / yy (14 / 20 ) files completed or something??
Also, lets say I am in the middle of the transfer with Putty. If I shutdown the PC while it is in progress, will it be halted, or will it continue to go afterwards? (im too chicken to test it out, hahaha.
Thanks all
Also, just to put it out there, While I have owned my DNS 323 since shortly after it was released, I think about 5ish years now, I am still a Linux N00b. I can get around the command prompt easy enough, but I don't quite understand how things work together, and I only know a few select commands. Google is my friend... Try to go easy on me. I found a few things in google, mostly referring to how to code stuff for a Linux GUI system.

did you install fonz fun_plug? if yes, you may want to use rsync, which has a progress bar. the syntax for moving files is "rsync --progress -r --remove-sent-files SOURCE_FILE DESTINATION".
And you may want to look into screen and/or Midnight Commander

Thank you for the reply!! I have changed my sig to include all the info on the box. I do have ffp 0.5 currently installed. Have been running it just after I got the box, if I remember correctly. Hard to say, that was long ago.
Thank you for the info on rsync. Being a linux noob, I was just going off of the wiki for instalation, and that's as far as I got. I suppose in the future, I should look to see what functions are in the directories, and look them up to see what the capabilities are. My mind could think like that 1:30am this morning, lol.
Thank you also for the midnight commander suggestion. I read a little about it just now, but will have to wait to get home to look further into it. At work right now, and I don't have DYN DNS set up anymore for remote access. I guess I should do that for these slow days....
Thank you again!!!
