e2fsck problems

Hi.

The lines above are the final ones of my DNS-323 dmesg; because of them, I've been trying to follow the instructions at http://www.inreto.de/dns323/fsck/, but got stuck, so I'm calling on you for help.

Whatever I do, I can't seem to go past the line "rsync -av inreto.de::dns323/fsck" which executes fine, either via ssh or via telnet (which I have re-enabled, since the same page declares that "To use these files, you need telnet access.")

The problem is I can't proceed to the next step ("cd /ffp/fsck") because I always get this error: "-sh: cd: can't cd to /ffp/fsck". Which is quite right, since "/mnt/HD_a2/ffp/fsck" is nowhere to be seen.

I'm running the latest version (0.5) fun_plug from its default location, and have also added the latest chkbutton2 following its thread instructions (http://dns323.kood.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=4420). Can anyone please tell me what am I doing wrong? TiA,

Re: e2fsck problems

Did you remember to include the trailing '.' in the rsync command?

It should be

Code:

rsync -av inreto.de::dns323/fsck .

When the rsync is successful, there WILL be an fsck directory present.  Without the '.' at the end, all you will get is a directory listing, which is what I think happened to you here.

Re: e2fsck problems

Precisely. I was just coming back here to state that I had found the problem. Silly me.

EDIT: Better late, than never -- deepest appreciation for your answer, dear Karlrado. Check run. Problem solved.

So, for the benefit of noobs like myself, if you're trying to get rid of disk errors by running e2fsck here's what you should do.

1. Head over to http://www.inreto.de/dns323/fsck/ and read everything on the page. (twice, for the sake of safety)

2. Follow the instructions to the letter. If you're copy & pasting, remember to include the final dot on the 3rd line of the installation command...

3. That's it.

Here's the link to the thread where this all seems to have originated, in case you still have doubts/errors: http://dns323.kood.org/forum/viewtopic. … 08&p=2 (Also referred to in the wiki in entry File System Checks: http://dns323.kood.org/howto:ffp)

[I'm calling on Fonz to add the warning above in bold to his instructions, to avoid moronic forum traffic like mine]
