Hi all,
I'm in the market to upgrade the 2 disks in my 323 from 2x1TB's up to 2x2TB's, and basically wondering what to get?
I'm thinking about the Hitachi deskstar 7200rpm 2TB drive (mostly as that is one that people have reported working in the supported HDD thread) but I can't find a store that has any nearby (out of stock for over a month now!). I have also read somewhere that the Samsung Spinpoint 2TB drives work but these are only 5400rpm, however they are available and about $40 cheaper.
I've trolled the supported HDDs thread and done a few searches but I can't decide whether its worth getting 7200rpm drives or not, considering the 323 has a few transfer speed issues that I've read about.
So can anyone quantify the performance increase with a 7200rpm drive? Will transfer speeds change? Is it worth waiting?
Cheers for any advice,
B

Using a 64MB RAM & 500Mhz CPU NAS to access your files, you're not going to notice enough difference to justify $80 more for 7200 drives. If money's not an issue, then go for it though.
I'm using 5400rpm drives and get 21MB/s wired. If you're wanting more than that, you should look for a better NAS

Not about money.... but power consumption... please
help us save the planet
Enough fun... except on high end nas devices... 5400rpm hard drives have enough performances nowadays to handle home device nas...
For you it will be cooler and less noisy

Hi guys,
Thanks for the responses, I think I will go with the Samsung spinpoints.
Cheers again,

EDIT
After going to the store, the Samsungs were sold out and they only had the Hitachi 7200 rpm drives! So I'm running 2x2TB fw.1.08
