DNS-323 revision C1 with Alt-F: it works!

Hi,

just to let you know that after a long period where I dumped my DNS-323 rev. C1 in a remote corner of my computer room and of my mind also I decided to check what was going on with the rev. C1

Luckily I found that the latest version of Alt-F (version B5) works very well. Alt-F has the kernel nfs support I was looking for. So now my DNS-323 is up and running in RAID-1 configuration hosting all my important files mounted transparently thanks to kernel nfs on my different machines. In particular I can use thunderbird mail client which is not possible with user space nfs because of the lack of file lock support.

Alt-F can be found here: http://sites.google.com/site/altfirmware/

Thanks to all for the good work in particular to Joao (author) and Alexey (intensive tester).

Best regards.

What are the major differences between A1, B1 and C1?  This is the first I've heard of C1...is it the most recent?

after you replace the stock firmware to alt-f, can you downgrade to default d-link firmware?

How hard is it to click on the link and see what it's about - you'll find that you can ...

a - run Alt-F "on top" of the vendor's firmware no flashing needed.
b - flash Alt-F, and it allows flashing back vendor's firmware.

Is there anything that you have to do to get alt-f 1.05 working on rev c1 board?  I saw somewhere that you should patch the kernel - I really have no clue how to do this and am a little worried that I'll flash and it'll not work because it's not patched...

Not any more.  C1 and B2 are working.  I believe some issues with A boards, so testers welcome.

Go to the site listed above and take a look.

I'm using it on a B board and love it, some things to iron out for me, but Joao is moving this stuff quickly and is very helpful.  Would help if I was a bit more clued up though haha.
