I have 2 DNS-323 in my setup and I need to upgrade one of the DNS-323 2 x 500GB drives with 2 x 2TB drives (WD20FASS) in a RAID 1 configuration. I thought the easiest way to do this would be to install the 2 TB drives in the second DNS-323 and copy the data between the 2 DNS-323's. However, I'm seeing strange performance issues. Here is a summary of what I noticed:
1. Copy from DNS-323 #1 to PC (i.e. read) = 29 MB/sec
2. Copy from PC to DNS-323 #2 (i.e. write) = 14 MB/sec
3. Copy from DNS-323 #1 to DNS-323 #2 = < 1 MB/sec
4. Simultaneously copy from #1 to PC and copy from PC to #2 I get 22 MB/s and 12 MB/s speeds respectively.
I'm copying home video files all speeds are reported by Win7.
Why is there a huge performance hit when copying directly between the 2 DNS=323s? If it matters, I have a Linksys eg0008w 1 Gb switch, DHCP server is a Linksys WRT54G 100 Mbs router/switch, i'm using jumbo frames with 9000 mtu.

You're not actually copying from one NAS directly to the other - not unless you're using ftp, or, you've hacked the NAS using fun_plug - you're transferring data from NAS1 to the PC and then to NAS2.
I suspect the question here is really why does your PC not transfer the data as would be expected - and that I have no answer for.
