Help me choose a 2tb drive

Hey all, I need help choosing a pair of 2tb drives for my dns-323.  I already have two samsung 1tb drives.  I need more space.  I won't be using any RAID.

Apparently the WD greens have head parking issues that shorten their life.  They are not supported by WD in any configuration except desktop use.  NAS use is not recommended with the Greens according to WD, they only support their RAID edition drives for NAS use.

Hitachi have 2tb drives, but rumour is they run real hot, and have reliability probs.

Seagate have 2tb LP drives, there is ALOT of bashing of these drives, they are not reliable according to many people.

WD have the blacks and the Raid editions. Both are too expensive, and since I won't be using raid, and don't need top performance, I can't justify the cost.

Is there something I'm missing?  2tb drives have been out for a whole year, and this is all we have to choose from?

Re: Help me choose a 2tb drive

I'd go for a Seagate Barracuda LP, 5900 RPM seems like a reasonable compromise. 150-160 Eur here doesnt seem to expensive, too. The best drive would be WD RAID Edition GreenPower, but i agree, too expensive (240 Euro here).

Re: Help me choose a 2tb drive

Obveron,

Did you ever make the purchase of the Seagates? I'm looking at a pair of the Seagate Barracuda LP ST32000542AS 2T for my 323.

I'd appreciate any feedback

Joe

Re: Help me choose a 2tb drive

I found them fast and cool, they also spin up faster since they need to reach only 5,900 rpm.

Transfer speed on RAID 1 around 20MB/s.

Did you need to do anything special to deal with the 4K block size on these drives?
