Hello,
I've just received my 323 today and it's set up and I'm ready to start playing around with it.
I see this is a hacking site, so it's probably way over my head technically, but I'm hoping maybe someone could point me to a more user-friendly forum...Maybe one for beginners.
I've been reading the wikis that are around and everything seems and sounds so confusing.
My ultimate goal (and I think it's possible), is to run transmission, and automatic in order to download torrents from an RSS feed (much like I have done previously with uTorrent).
Is there a foolproof step by step guide on how to achieve this by chance?
A prod in some direction would be greatly appreciated.
Seems like an excellent device so far!
Thanks.

You goal is a good one.
Start by installing FFP so that you can telnet into the NAS.

Install and configure Transmission

Install and configure Automatic

I used these links when I got my DNS323 and have been running a simple, non-resource intensive, fully automated BT client system ever since.

Thank you very much for the fast and informative response.
I am stuck though.
I've managed to get SSH working, and I've SSH'd into the root.
I'm now onto installing Transmission.
I have downloaded the curl.tgz and Transmission.tgz files provided in the tutorial. However, I can't seem to get them installed, I guess I can't find the directory that I've placed them in.
I have copied the two tgz files over to the DNS via my Windows Network. I've placed them just within the Volume_1 folder...I would assume that's the root folder.
However, when I try to run the command in the tutorial...
$ funpkg -i curl-7.18.1.tgz (without the $)
I receive this error: FATAL: curl-7.18.1.tgz: File not found
I assuming it's because I haven't navigated to the correct folder.
Where should I put the transmission and curl files?
Thanks...I'm finding this slightly easier than I originally though...I'm just hoping that I can keep receiving some great help!
** Just thinking...Do the curl and transmission .tgz files need to be somewhere in the FFP directory? If so, I'm trying to move them and getting an error about not having proper permission to do so (using my Windows network)

If the packages are not in the current directory, then just specify the path to them. I put them in /ffp/my-packages but it doesn't matter where you store them.
funpkg -i [path]/curl-7.18.1.tgz
or cd to the correct location.

Alright, a few more questions...I'm sorry about all these noob questions...hah
Anyways, I can't figure out how to get the files to the ffp directory. If I move them I get a permission error in windows...Is there something I need to do in regards to my network sharing settings, or do I need to get them into that directory some other way.
Also, every time I try to cd to a different directory I get: -sh: cd: can't cd to Torrents
I'm logged in as root, but I don't really know how to move around the directories...I can't seem to get anywhere.
All of my files and folders are on Volume_1, I think...I don't know how to get there.
Thanks.

Both of your volumes should be visible on the command line as /mnt/HD_a2 and /mnt/HD_b2. The ordering of drives can differ so you have to check yourself which of them is Volume_1.

Ya, I must have really messed up somewhere...I can't see any directories from the command line.
I'm using Putty in SSH mode...When I login I get this:
root@dlink-66CDC7:~#
Any time I try to type something I get this error...
-sh: cd: can't cd to [dir]
I'm so lost...hah.
I think it should be easy, but I must have made an error on the other aspects of the tutorial...I've got an ffp directory, so it should all be good right?
Do I have to turn off the iTunes server, or Bittorrent server?

Man, I'm an idiot...Got it...
Now time to configure...That should be fun!
Thanks to everyone for the help.
