Replacing failed RAID 1 disk...

Hi,

More woes.. This on my V1.08 f/w RAID 1 system... My RH drive failed (a 1TB Samsung HD103UJ) - the current version of this drive is HD103SJ, otherwise they are identical. I took out the failed drive - GSmartControl tests on a Win7 box showed a hard read error, so I replaced that drive with a new HD103SJ and power on again...

Now when I restart the box, I've lost all my SMB shares and cannot re-insert them (all attempts are ignored - even loading my previous saved config makes no difference - has SAMBA left the building?), and when logging in I always get the screen below (to which I type "Skip").

On the raid menu, the "Manually Rebuild Now" button is greyed out, and when I try to select "Enable Auto-Rebuild" the DNS drops my connection and appears to restart without having enabled auto-rebuild.

How to get this system back to normal?

Many thanks

Nick

Re: Replacing failed RAID 1 disk...

Oh rats, it seems my rootfs has filled up again, probably because the disk that is still good is now showing up as /dev/sdb and not sda, so the swap isn't found, so it defaults to rootfs, and fills up... this then stops SAMBA and all fails.
I re-read my original thread at http://dns323.kood.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=6065 to get to this point...

So, how do I get the RAID1 drive with the data still on it back as sda (not sdb) - its currently in the LHS of the DNS and the new disk is in the RHS...

Cheers

Re: Replacing failed RAID 1 disk...

Was there any partition previously created on the new disk?
I read somewhere that it could cause trouble rebuilding the raid. Try deleting all partitions on the new disk and insert it again, reboot and see if you can rebuild the raid then.

No joy doing this - I would really appreciate some guidance here...

Thanks
