Hi, recently facing this issue of slow transfer rate that i have in my LAN. The transfer speed that i sometime face are like 4 - 6MB/s.
The router that i'm using is DIR 655(dlink product). The harddisk that i use for the DNS323 are 1TB Western Digital Green.
This is the ifconfig from DNS323

Are you wired or wireless? I have the same setup as you, DIR-655 (also have the DIR-685, but just took it out to put in my 655), DNS323 but I have 640GB WD Greens.
Wired (ENABLE JUMBO FRAMES IF YOU CAN, MTU9000), my max is about 22MB/s, lowest I've seen is about 9MB/s. Wireless is a different story. Tops about 5MB/s, typically 3.5MB/s though. I run OSX Snow Leopard with Macbook Pros.
Hope that helps

Hi there, i running on Win 7 and is wired. i also enable jumbo frames but the speed i got the highest is 8MB/s

You need to enable jumbo frames also on your Win7 PC. And the router has to be able to support them.
The speed of 8MB/s is typical for transfers without jumbo frames.

From Google Search:
I have a DLink DIR-655 router also. I contacted support before I purchased it and they informed me that it does NOT support Jumbo Frames.

Thx skydreamer!! Was looking through at another forum and was curious that if a gigabit/jumbo frame support switch was use to transfer between Win 7 and DNS 323, does it help in the transfer speed?

Definitely. I have the same setup myself and the transfer speeds are above 20MB/s.

Thx skydreamer, think i'm gonna get 1 switch soon. Anw does the WD green eco hdd affect the transfer speed aswhile?
Anw dlink support team email me back and told me the following
"
Dear Mr Kevin Lee
DIR-655 had default hardware built-in and implemented Jumbo frame feature which support size with 9K

Have both the 655 and the 685 and can confirm faster speeds with the 685 hands down.
