I think there should be a new topic for this...

Got it installed. No data loss, firefly still working, as well as fun-plug
Nice to see groups/users got a little improved.
However I now have a problem with filenames with "é" "à" "è" and others "non US characters". Is there a way to submit bugs ?
Cheers,
V.

New version of Samba so I guess the locale stuff has changed. Did you run EasySearch?
Offline
Yes. I choos Western European, it rebooted, but same thing.
All my accents vanished looking from telnet session, and windows shares are displaying small squares in names with accents.
Offline
My charset is also "Western European".
And my special chars in filenames are working - like "ö", "ü", "é" - not just over windows share,
over ftp access too.

Is there anything in the beta to fix the clock drift problems?

Well, there is an issue then.
Now over FTP, I get:
Status: Directory listing successful
Status: Retrieving directory listing...
Command: CWD mp3
Response: 250 OK. Current directory is /HD_a2/mp3
Command: PWD
Response: 257 "/Volume_1/mp3" is your current location
Command: TYPE A
Response: 200 TYPE is now ASCII
Command: PASV
Response: 227 Entering Passive Mode (192,168,2,13,49,237)
Command: LIST
Response: 150 Accepted data connection
Error: Disconnected from server
Error: Could not retrieve directory listing
Error: Timeout detected!
This happens on all directories with names using é à è à and so on. Previous FW was OK......
My smb.conf is now:
unix charset = ISO8859-1
Could someone post his, on 1.03 with correct accentuated cars OK.
/etc/samba # ls /sys/crfs/codepages
codepage.850 unicode_map.850 unicode_map.ISO8859-1
/etc/samba #
I think the 850 would be better in my case.....
anyone ?

I changed the:
unix charset = ISO8859-1"
to:
unix charset = CP850
dos charset = CP850
And it works nicely now..... anyway to make this change persistent ?

Sounds like you had an incorrect setting in previous firmware.
From my smb.conf in fw 1.03
client code page = 850
character set = ISO8859-1
You might want to rename your files. It would be easiest todo from a telnet shell.
Below is a clip from wikipedia:
Code page 850 is a code page that was used in western Europe, under systems such as DOS. It was also sometimes used on English DOS systems although CP437 was generally the default on those. It was largely replaced first with windows-1252 (often mislabeled as ISO-8859-1) and later by UCS-2 and finally UTF-16 (while the NT line was natively unicode from the start issues of development tool support and compatibility with windows 9x kept most applications on the 8 bit code pages). According to Microsoft, it is obsolete and unsupported.

Thanks.
This is what I do now, from fun_plug, but maybe there is something wrong with 1.04 and samba config (samba is in version 3 now):
/ # smbd --version
Version 3.0.24
/ #
My fun_plug part to restar samba, for those interested:
if [ -f /mnt/HD_a2/smb.conf ]
then
kill `/mnt/HD_a2/fun_plug.d/bin/pidof smbd`
kill `/mnt/HD_a2/fun_plug.d/bin/pidof nmbd`
cp /mnt/HD_a2/smb.conf /etc/samba/smb.conf
smbd -d
nmbd -D

What new features/performance/etc does Samba 3.0.24 have that we didn't get with 2.x?

Seems that the "Share not accesable after reboot"-issue is still not corrected in this firmware - can anyone confirm this?

Anyone know if /usr/sbin/getdhcp has been fixed so it wont wake up the HD when it runs?

I don't have that problem any longer in FW1.03
Perhaps you try to access them to soon after the DNS starts?

When you download do you share torrents as well?
Anyways installed the firmware and twonkey, firefly and everything else is working well!

One thing I noticed is it is not refreshing on windows when you do file operations. For example if I make a new share on the folder that the nas shares out to our windows PC, it does not show up. I had to hit the refresh to see the new folder and after I renamed it for the folder name to change. The older 1.03 did not do that so its just "different"....

I seem to be getting some intermittant file permission errors when viewing JPG's.
When I try to open one of the suspect files it says I do not have the correct permission. I can open any other file in that same directory.
I think the firmware may be corrupting the files.
I'm using Windows Vista.

Would you by any chance have non ASCII characters in the files with problems?

Just a simple name straight from the camera ex:P1000009.JPG

Hi all.
I'm trying that BT client embedded in new firmware release 1.04. It's a useful feature but I haven't yet found a way to manage bandwidth in download and, most of all, in upload.
This is a problem for me, 'cause I'm using an asimmetrical DSL connection with 4,8 Mbps in download and only 320 kbps in upload. When I start a .torrent download, the "unlimited" upload band quickly saturate my connection. Web browsing, file transfer and any other internet-related activity becomes extremely slow from any pc in the LAN including... BT downloads running on DNS323!!!
I wish to ask if ppl at dlink can do something to empower the web applet, by adding a bandwidth management form for any new .torrent and a way to stop and resume downloads. Actually the only thing I can do to safely stop a DL is a device shut down!
Thanks in advance, sorry for my broken english and congrats for this forum!

You really should manage bandwith in the router. The DNS will never know how much of the bandwith is being used by other apps. Many routers have QoS settings.

He's not trying to manage general bandwidth usage, but rather the bandwidth used BY the BT client running on the DNS323, something which is fairly common with download accelerators and BT clients.
Offline
Yes but the best way still is todo it in the router with QoS. Then you can give BT traffic very low priority and you will not notice it. In my opinion the best place for it.

DNS 323 is a home/small office device as well as my 3com DSL router that honestly doesn't have QoS capabilities. Perhaps I can do something with SNMP but looks clear that whould be great to have a simple BT client manageable without net-admin skills.

Hello,
Same here under XP. My raw files are corrupted when uploaded. It also seems I can't write to existign files (not being able to chang ID3 tags for example....)
Add to this the accentuated caracters issue, and I think I'll go back to 1.03. Enough testing for now.
EDIT 1:
So I turned abck to 1.03
Apart from having to reconfigure everything, it works fine now, but I still don't have the accents in my filenames. They are just skipped from windows, not displayed at all.
So
a/ I didn't notice my accentuated files were missing before
or
b/ 1.03 -> 1.04 -> 1.03 produces weird things.
What is also very strange, is that I can now create accentuated files on windows, and send them to the dns. So I wonder how my existing files lost their accents. As I have the source (an external HD), I can upload them again but this is a real pain.
One more question, on the telnet server: I'm not able to type accents. Something wrong with the server or putty ?
EDIT 2:
Oh! another thing. Rights with 1.04 are set to 777, which may be a bit too permissive, too.
Thanks.
Vincent.
