Hello all,
I've got a strange thing with my DNS-323.
I configure all the network parameters correctly: static IP, network mask, DNS server IP, workgroup, server name ("serv1" in my case). Everything works fine. I can reach the server with its alias "SERV1" from every computer on my network.
But when I reboot the DNS-323 the "SERV1" alias is not recognized anymore. I could only reach the server with its IP only.
The only way I have to solve this is accessing the server's configuration web page (on SETUP/DEVICE) and simply press one time the save button (without changing any parameters) and it works fine again.
Does anyone encounter the same issue?
DNS-323 is running on 1.08
Thanks,

Sounds like this is just normal network issues. It takes a few minutes (or hours in extreme cases) for the master browser to become aware that a new system (or a rebooted system) is now available on the network. So normally, if you wait a bit, it should be found on your network.
Workaround is to create HOSTS files on the systems in your network that reflect the names and IP addresses of the static clients in your network.

I wouldn't want to describe it as "just normal network issues", but it certainly is a common occurence and there is a very simple explanation - without a DNS server on your network to handle name resolution, you should not expect to be able to locate any device using it's name.
As FunFiler mentioned, at some point Windows will discover there is a new device - the old netBEUI master browser system was never very reliable, and when used in a mixed Windows/linux environment is known to be problematic - and the solution is to use static ip addresses, and if you must use the network name, either install a DNS server, or hard code the name/address details in the host file.

Yes I understand.
I would prefer using name instead IP since it is most convenient. Anyway I could imagine using the IP adress if the refresh time is too long. I will try to see how much is it...
I use a "Sitecom 300N" as router. Do you thing this one can be the issue source. And if yes why the DNS-323 make a "discover" when push the "save" button on it?
