Hi,
I've been experiencing this problem for quite some time now. For some reason, whenever I try to do multiple this with my G600, such as transfering files via FTP and listening to MP3z, my G600 will freeze. Sometimes it will freeze for around 30 seconds, sometimes up to 4 minutes. Even when multiple people are transferring files in/out of the server, it will hang.
What I would like to know is if the G600 can handle high loads? Is anyone experiencing this problem? Is it only designed to handle small loads?
I currently have the 1.02 (US) firmware.
Also, I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the 250GB Seagate HD I have in there. Would a defective harddrive cause this? I figured if the HD was defective, then it wouldn't work at all. Is this a correct assumption? I do have external HD's connected as well, and I'm experiencing the same problem. Could the internal being affecting the externals as well?
Thanks in advance.

High load should not be a problem. For example I do run gentoo on my DSM-G600 which needs A LOT of load when installing new programs (in my case load can be up to 1.0 to 3.0 for a few hours).
But high load may defect some programs for example samba or ftp or even wireless. But how sure you are that your DSM-G600 is really freezed? Try to use cabled setup and try to ping your device, see what happens. Also try to replace your hard disk. And if still freezes then you maybe need to go to the warranty.

Hi Sala,
Thanks for the response. I forgot to mention that my g600 is directly hardwired to the router. I didn't want to sacrifice reliability and stability that sometimes results from WiFi. So for sure it's not a connection type issue.
How do I know it's frozen? Basically, while transferring files, immediately right after the transfer pauses, I got to another computer to see if I can access the NAS. I'll get a message that says something to the effect that it cannot locate the device. But somewhere between 30 seconds to 3 minutes, the g600 will come back to life and I can then access my files.
I've experienced this with Samba, FTP, and through my DSM-320 player. I'm extremely baffled. I'm even wondering if I have a defective NAS. I guess I'll pick up another internal HD and see if anything improves. I might even pick up another G600 to see if I have any problems with that...
If you have any other suggestions I could try, I would really appreciate it.
Thank you.

Try to ping your device while this problem happens. If you have a telnet access then you might want to look uptime ( cat /proc/uptime ) to see if yours DSM-G600 did restart while it was inaccessible.

Good idea. I'll need to install the funplug then. Thanks sala.

Did you have any luck figuring this out? I have had same issue for quite some time. For example when syncronizing my ipod (music is stored on DSM) it will freeze and then error out. I have same problem with photo application. Have tried some tests of copying large directories and files from drive to Vista machine and same problem. BUT when I do it on a MAC it works fine!
I am almost ready to throw this out the window....
