had my dns-323 for years. has 2 500GB disks in it in mirrored raid configuration - shed loads of data on it. power supply has been temperamental - actually its the connection, not the psu itself. so wiggling the cable has always fixed it when i had power problems (only ever played up when I moved it so normally not an issue). anyway finally has bit the dust and I cant get it to power on. could I buy another unit and plug my discs straight in, or would that mean losing data?
any ideas gratefully received.

You would have to reconfigure (users, shares, etc), possibly load a backup of your config if you have one, but otherwise, yes, you can move the drives to a new unit and access your data.
If you have any soldering skills, you could try replacing the power connector or soldering the wires directly bypassing the plug. Nothing to lose in trying it really.

You could buy a new one and just use the power adapter from it with the old one, but if it were me - I'd be going FunFiler's route - chop the plug off and solder the wires direct to the board.

Thanks guys. Have taken it apart and pretty sure it's the power socket's connections to the board. Wiggling the cable/socket on the board is now giving me intermittent power (fan starts up) but no blue lights on the front.
Haven't soldered anything since uni but could probably muddle through however I don't have a soldering iron so thats pretty much out of the question for the moment. I guess its time for a new one - pretty annoying as I'd like to just get the data off it (wish it wasn't raid right now!).

You could put one of the drives into a USB enclosure and load the Windows driver to access the data. Would cost you about $20-$30 for the enclosure.
