Easy Search Utility does not see DNS-323 (but Windows Explorer does)

I just set up my new DNS-323 as RAID 1. I also updated the shipped firmware to ver 1.03. It is recognized under "My Network Places" and I have no problem writing/reading to/from it from any of the computers connected to the network. However, the "Easy Search Utility" does not see it. When I click on "Refresh" the blue network light under the power button blinks for a moment but no device appears.

Any suggestions how to fix this would be appreciated. In order to map the DNS-323 to each of the connected computers it first has to be recognized by the Easy Search Utility.

Re: Easy Search Utility does not see DNS-323 (but Windows Explorer does)

I found the problem. I should have researched a little more.

I was using Easy Search Utility ver 2.2.0.0 (on the distribution CD). Ver 3.5 is required for firmware ver 1.03.

It works fine now. Sorry for the unnecessary post.

You don't actually need the easy search utility to map the DNS-323 on your computer...at least, I was able to set things up w/out running it on all my computers.  Easy search makes it easier, but is not required.

As said before. You need it if you want to change the Locale.

I have the same problem. I have two NICs in my PC. (onboard) one is configured for internet and network access (dhcp) the other has a direct connection to the DNS-323. telnet, ftp and internet explorer are working fine, but the utility cannot find the dns, even when I disable the other nic.

Yup...I'm referring to the subject of this thread, mapping the drive.  smile  But your reminder on the other need (locale) is appreciated.

Exactly and no version of this utility finds my dns 323.

I now tried the following config: DNS-323 as DHCP Client and my PC on the same router. only one nic enabled. internet explorer works fine.

Is there a way to change the locale without the utility?

Not that I am familiar with.

Re: Easy Search Utility does not see DNS-323 (but Windows Explorer does)

Just throwing some things out here...

Have you tried going into the DNS-323 admin utility and checking LAN and Device settings under Setup?

Also, under System in the Tools section there is an option to reset to facory defaults and restart the DNS-323.

May not help, but can't hurt.

Also, maybe try turning off any firewalls/security software and see if that has an affect on the Easy Search SW finding the DNS-323.

I think this might be related to the EasySearch utility using MultiCast when communicating with the NAS, can't really explain why but that's one difference between the utility and the other protocols mentioned. Check your settings related to MultiCast.

Have you tested UPnP? UPnP is also using MultiCast...
