Re: TwonkyServer 6.0.23 - DNS-323 - easy install

I am using console and edit, I have tried everything...

Going into the file via FTP shows files permissions as ok, but the owner is different to other files in the directory.  I changed ownership to my account but that still doesn't work.  At this stage all I want to do is delete the damn thing and start again but it wont let me delete it at all!

This is the file
-rwxrwxrwx    1 jaugust  0             137 Jan 24 22:10 starttwonky.sh

ftp> del
(remote-file) starttwonky.sh
550 Could not delete starttwonky.sh: Permission denied

Anyone got any suggestions on how to delete this file.  I am logged in as jaugust...nothing works

Re: TwonkyServer 6.0.23 - DNS-323 - easy install

Can you SSH in and login as root, or telnet?  Instead of trying to figure out why SMB of FTP isn't letting you access, I would try a simple proven method to edit files as root.

Re: TwonkyServer 6.0.23 - DNS-323 - easy install

No luck at all...

I re-installed TwonkyServer as per the intructions, line by line....

I struck the same problem again with being unable to edit starttwonky.sh, but I managed to get a copy on there that I could edit.

I restarted the DNS-323 NAS again and it fired up and was able to connect to the config page but then the troubles started...

I lose my samba shares in Windows!!!  WHY?  I can see the machine listed in Windows 7 and I can ping it, get the configuration screen but I can't share any files?

Anyone know how to restore samba shares?

Re: TwonkyServer 6.0.23 - DNS-323 - easy install

if you are loosing the SMB share it means you have not followed the steps in the explanations, here is below the reason :

On the DNS-323, /tmp, /var and /mnt are in the root partition (/). The root partition is entirely in RAM and has total size 9.7MB.
By default Twonky 6.0.xx is built to log to /tmp/TwonkyMediaServer-log.txt and other data is stored in /var and /mnt.

Two problems:
# 1/ The available space in / is quickly filled, the DNS-323 stops serving files and the status lights on the front go pink.
# 2/ Any saved twonky configuration is lost after a reboot, including the license key.

So we need to change the Twonky configuration to store this data on the big disks instead. This is easy to do by editing the starttwonky.sh script

Now, for you to avoid the SMB crash, just telnet the DNS and go to /ffp/start and chmod -x starttwonky.sh.
reboot your DNS-323, the SMB share is back as the twonkyserver media will have not started and crashed.
In the installation process, do not forget to untick the box "start server" as you need to edit the file starttwonky.sh before running the application.

does that make sense to you ?

Re: TwonkyServer 6.0.23 - DNS-323 - easy install

Yes that makes sense but I have followed them perfectly and I know the DNS-323 is not filling it's ram.

There was another dir inside twonky called appdata which stored this config data!

I edited the starttwonky.sh file because thats the one that was giving me all the drama's

As I said I followed the instructions perfectly...I unticked start server, removed the line from fun_plug and edited the starttwonky.sh file

What else do I have to do?  There are no twonky files in /tmp, /var or /mnt

Re: TwonkyServer 6.0.23 - DNS-323 - easy install

I have twonky installed and started.  i'm able to hit the media server.  I able to see the twonky log file created in the location i specified, but the files is empty.  Anybody know why?

Thanks!

Re: TwonkyServer 6.0.23 - DNS-323 - easy install

It is the log file that was added in the startup shell:

-logfile /mnt/HD_a2/Nas_Prog/twonky/TwonkyMediaServer-log.txt

Do you know which option is to turn on logging?  Is it in the .ini file?  I did change the log level to verbose in the .ini file

Thanks.
