VSFTPD and logfiles

I have vsftpd setup and running.  I do not however have any logfiles.  I created the folder as instructed in this howto, and my config file has the 2 following lines:

xferlog_file=/ffp/var/log/vsftpdxf.log
vsftpd_log_file=/ffp/var/log/vsftpd.log

But there are no files in ffp/var/log/

I know I probably need to create them, but is that all?  Will vsftpd then start logging to those files?  Seems it would create them if they are not there.  I can ssh in, but I'm not confident in doing this myself, I need to be spoonfed the commands, as any time I try to do something like this permissions or some such get screwed up.

Any help is appreciated.

Re: VSFTPD and logfiles

Ok, been doing a lot of research and still cant get it, this is the top part of my config file:

xferlog_enabled=YES
xferlog_std_format=NO
dual_log_enabled=YES
log_ftp_protocol=YES
syslog_enabled=NO
xferlog_file=/ffp/var/log/vsftpdxf.log
vsftpd_log_file=/ffp/var/log/vsftpd.log

I have created the 2 log files in vi and exited, they are in the folders now, and root (the user vsftpd is running under for now) has read/write permission to the files.  I have copied some files back and forth via sftp as a test, however whenever I check the log files they are both empty....
