The whole log kind of looks like this fragment completely, except for messages from other series. This is no longer indicating a DNS error, right?
What should I do? And what means bumping up my log level and how do I do that (sorry for being a n00b!)

Response Code 401 means Automatic couldn't add a torrent to Transmission because the authentication is wrong. Iif you configured Transmissions web interface to require a login and password to access it, the same authentication is needed by Automatic. Use the "rpc-auth" option in your automatic.conf to set this up.

OK, had my password just filled in there, while Transmission replaces the password with an encrypted version on restart. Now filled in root:[hash] in automatic.conf. Will report tomorrow; Chuck should come out tonight

Isn't there a bit of a more detailed guide to installing Automatic? I really feel like I missed something here. In Automatic, I now use the "encrypted" version of my password from the Transmission config file, is that correct? A normal version wouldn't work.

Personally, I don't need to authenticate as I run everything behind my router. Took less than 5 minutes to get Automatic up and running following the first post in the thread.

Well, I'll see how The Big Bang Theory works tonight If it does not, how can I test Automatic's connection to Transmission? Isn't there a command for that?

If you still get the error, I suggest setting the loglevel a bit higher so we can see in more detail what happens.
To do this, edite the /ffp/start/automatic.sh file and add the '-v' parameter to automatic_flags:

My guess is that it found the new Top Gear episode, tried to get it working, but it got back a 401 error. According to what you said earlier, that's a DNS error. I can see in the administration panel for the CH3MNAS, that they are still at 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. So I tried pinging again:

Looks to me like the issue is between Automatic and Transmission. The fact that you can't ping TPB is meaningless.

Have you removed the necessity to login in to Transmission? (just as a test to see if it works)
Are you sure you configured the correct port in both packages?

Well, I have set Transmission up so that it is required to log in, so I did not remove that necessity. I'm in an open network and it's possible that I'm being portmapped.
The port is not something that I would overlook, but I'll check that when I get back home. Is there any way to test this?

It is definitely an issue between Automatic and Transmission. The log you posted is thus incomplete (cut right before the interesting part

As mentioned before, HTTP 401 usually means that the authentication failed. So, Transmission doesn't like the auth for some reason.
This is a tough one

Here's a couple of things you should check:
1. Make sure there is only one instance of Transmission running (beware though: 1 instance of Transmission means 4 or 5 threads showing in 'top').
Best is to quit Transmission, wait a while, then check 'top' for any leftover processes and kill them if necessary.
2. Make sure there's no other web server running on the same port. (default port for Transmission RPC is 9091). If you changed the default port to, say, 80, so you can access it from outside, it might interfer with a different webserver (like the admin interface of the Ch3MNAS).
3. Also make sure your authentication is typed correctly (duh!), in the form of 'user:password' in your automatic.conf.

Other than that, I'm out of ideas. Maybe it's a problem with libcurl on the CH3MNAS?

As you can see in the settings files I sent you by PM, it shows that I used the default port number. That shouldn't be the problem.
I don't know how to check "top"... Everytime I edit a config file, I just use this:

Then I make changes, and start again. Shouldn't be the problem too, then.

Just to make sure, I filled in the passwords again, non-hashed. I guess Transmission will be making them hashes again, but that should be normal.

The libcurl... I just installed from the link in the Transmission thread, just like you tutorial'd, oh wise one So no, I don't know anything about any pre-installed libcurl on the CH3MNAS... But installing fun_plug should've reset everything, right?

Guys! Got it working! This morning I randomly checked the web interface, and 5 series downloaded (of which Californication 3 times, but ah well...)
My conclusion is that it was the password hash not matching... I didn't update libcurl in the end.

By the way, new feature: being able to flush out the Transmission download folder. That means: not having to remove the folder recursively, remake it and chmodding it everytime
Oh, and maybe the possibility to run a script after a torrent has finished, or "all torrents have finished", like: move everything to 192.168.1.X.

Oh, and a question, maybe you know this: I edited the ssh config file to change the port and therefore I had to chmod that file. Does anyone know the original state it is in? And how do I actually see this 3-digit code from a file, so I can look it up myself before editing something?

You should not have to modify the permissions if you use an appropiate user for Transmission and/or have appropriate default permissions.

There is already the ability to run a post download script in Transmission. See the Transmission thread and/or the Transmission web site for more info.

Permission 755 should be fine depending on your security.

Running Top is easy, just type "top" at the command prompt It will show you memory and resource utilization, processes etc in real time. Type "q" to exit.

Instead of top, you can also run "ps" to check the processes for a one off. "ps -ef" or you can even pipe and filter it for just specific processes such as "ps -ef|grep transmission" and it will show only the transmission processes. Since Transmission is slow to stop, it is always good to do this before editing the config or restarting Transmission to ensure you don't run into unexpected issues.

If you set up Transmission to use an 'Incomplete' folder for torrents that are still downloading, then yes, the expected behavior is that once the torrent finishes, Transmission will move it to the folder you specified in Automatic.
If no Incomplete folder is defined, then Transmission will (or rather, should) download directly to that folder from Automatic.

Unfortunately you didn't actually say what really happens in your case. Could you please tell me what exactly happens and what you expect to happen?
Also, which versions of Transmission and Automatic are you using?

If I understand correctly, the .avi file should appear in the folder specified for the folder settings for that filter.

Hm, yes, that's correct. The file should never appear in /mnt/HD_a2/Downloads, actually.
I'd expect Transmission to put the .part file in /mnt/HD_a2/.transmission-daemon/Incomplete and then moving and renaming it to /mnt/HD_a2/TVShows/JustIn when it's finished.

I'll do some testing once I'm home.
