Hi,
Just got my DNS-323 really happy with it and the guides on the site have been incredibly helpful.
At the moment I am only using one of the two drive bays, using a Western Digital WD20EADS Caviar Green 2TB SATAII 32MB drive.
I intend to get a 2nd drive for it, does anyone know if it needs to be exactly the same? Or can I chuck any other drive in there? Does the total size/cache size etc. matter if they don't match? Are there any drive make/models to avoid for any reason?
Also the drive I currently have is formatted to EXT2. If I wanted to move to RAID 0 or RAID 1 once I put the new drive in, would I have to format the current drive in order to set up RAID or is it possible to avoid that?
Thanks in advance!

The drives can be of different sizes, if you want to switch to RAID0 (although I can't imagine why you'd want to do that) you will need to format the existing drive, however you could go to RAID1 without a reformat.

NAS and HDD manufacturers typically do not recommend green drives in NAS units.

Whats the issue with green drives? I've had a quick look but couldnt find any advise online to that effect. So I could put say, this drive in:
http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-I … _1_fkmr0_1
Which is the same as the other drive except 64MB cache as opposed to 32MB, without any probs?
