Transmission remote/web gui crashes transmission

Hi everyone,

Thanks to these forums I was able to install funplug on my DNS-323.  But now everytime I use transmission remote or the web gui interface, transmission crashes.  I heard a possible fix is to disable epoll, but because i'm new to this I can't seem to figure out a way to do this...HELP!!!!

Re: Transmission remote/web gui crashes transmission

First off, it would be best if you use the already existing thread for this. There it is guaranteed that I see new posts smile

What version of Transmission are you using? I have no experience with Transmission Remote, but it should definitely not crash when using the web interface.

Does transmission-remote work?

If you run Transmission in debug mode, you might be able to see the reason why it crashes:

Code:

$ transmission-daemon -f -g /mnt/HD_a2/.transmission-daemon --log-debug

This runs Transmission in foreground and shows all its log message in your console.
Try accessing the web interface with your browser and then look at the console to see what happens.

Re: Transmission remote/web gui crashes transmission

Hi Kylek,

Thanks for the quick reply!!

I'm using transmission 2.21, and yes, I'm using transmission-remote for my gui as well as the web interface and both are causing transmission to crash.

I'll try the debug mode when i get home and post the results.

Re: Transmission remote/web gui crashes transmission

Are you running on the DLink DNS-323 or other hardware? I seem to recall someone running on the Ch3nas (sp?) having similar issues.

Re: Transmission remote/web gui crashes transmission

Ok, new problem.....

I entered in the command transmission-daemon -f -g /mnt/HD_a2/.transmission-daemon --log-debug, and now transmission won't start.  I tried resetting transmission, I also tried restarting my dns-323, nothing.  When i enter in top, I no longer see transmission there.

Funfiler,

I'm using the funplug on the DNS-323.

I must be doing something wrong, since i'm new to this whole thing....

-UPDATE-

So i fixed the above problem.  Somehow my permissions to settings.json was changed so that it could no longer be accessed by the nas.  I chown the settings.json file and am now able to boot up transmission.

According to the debug when i start up the web gui it says "searching for web interface file//.local/share/transmission/web/index", then it connects.  A few seconds later it then says "Killed".  Then my GUI times out and transmission crashes.

After this, I am unable to reboot.  I check the permissions and sure enough the log file says something like cannot access settings.json access denied, and I have to chown the file again in order to boot up transmission properly.

I hope this helps!!

Re: Transmission remote/web gui crashes transmission

I'd definitely look at the full permissions of the user you are running as (I use "nobody"), the permissions on all the directories you use, having "umask": 0, in your settings.json file, etc.

Performing a clean install may help, stick to the default directories for now (although I have no problem using a custom path as I run from a USB stick).

Re: Transmission remote/web gui crashes transmission

I also use nobody...what is umask :0?  Is it a command?

I too was thinking about doing a clean install, but was worried about losing all my torrents.  Is there a way to somehow keep all my torrents and perform a clean install?

Re: Transmission remote/web gui crashes transmission

So I decided i am going to do a clean install. Can anyone point me to the direction to download transmission 2.11 for dns-323.  Also, if i do reinstall, can i just remove funplug and reinstall funplug with transmission and still keep my torrent data?
