Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

fun_plug permission problems in Firmware 1.09

Hello all

I have been a long time user of our friend Fonz's fun_plug packages. Recently I decided to upgrade and reinstall all the software on the DNS-323. First I upgraded my firmware from version 1.06 to version 1.09. Then proceeded to install the ffp software.

In installing the ffp is a crucial step where the fun_plug script is given full executable permissions. In the past I did this through the ftp server by executing the chmod command. However with firmware 1.09 it seems that this functionality has been disabled. Naturally this will make an ffp installation challenging.

Lucky for me I had a copy of the old fun_plug with full permissions. The FTP server allowed me to execute a rename command, and now everything is working. So for me this is not a problem.

I am curious have other users been able to chmod with ftp in firmware 1.09? If so was there anything special or is there a bug in my installation?

Furthermore, if this is the case that chmod is disabled in advanced firmwares, this is a problem. Particularily to new users that do not already have executable fun_plug's. If this is the case I think it is important to identify the latest version of the firmware that allows chmod. Alternatively another way to make the fun_plug executable.

One thing about version 1.09 is it has an NFS server. I have yet to figure out how to mount it with my computer but maybe this could be used to edit permissions?

Anyways new developments it seems as there isn't a lot on the web about this problem. I have posted something on the wiki stating the importance of chmod in the fun_plug installation and that this can be done through FW 1.06. So hopefully new users will get this information without too much frustration.

Take Care
Pilot

Re: fun_plug permission problems in Firmware 1.09

You can also manage permissions using Samba. Moreover, the default Samba configuration in the standard firmware causes all files copied over Samba to become executable (force create mode = 0777).
