It would be more helpful if you said what exactly went wrong.

adambyrtek I tried to install Optware but it just seems to hang my 323
bjby if i knew that those application were there i would have had a go at installing them
I am a noob at this linux stuff

Alright, optware is a good start.
http://dns323.kood.org/howto:optware
Read it carefully. What is it you dont understand or have problem with?
Begin trying to install something simple like zip or whois.

I just saw that the alt-f firmware has support to use debian packages. You could try that route.
sabnzbdplus exists as a debian package. If you can get debian to work via alt-f, then I can guide you to howto do the rest. Debian is very standard and easy to use once you get into it.

I will give the alt -f ago debian will be fun to lean
Offline
Hi guys sorry for the long delay in gettin back on here, i got ALT-F installed how would you go about installing SABNZbd?
Offline
Once you have debian running it would involve running "apt-get install sabznbdplus" and connecting to the sab web server to configure it.
Offline
evening dhub
I managed to get debian squeeze-1.0.4 installed is okay
Offline
So you got debian up,nice. Begin by installing something simple.
1. apt-get install whois
You got this working, then install sabznbdplus
2. apt-get install sabnzbdplus
This may or maynot work. sabnzbdplus isnt found within the standard package archives included in squeeze. You may need to add the package archive "sid contrib".
If it doent then you need to do the following.
Add these lines to file /etc/apt/sources.list
#Debian Sid:
deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ sid contrib
As an alternative to edit the sourcefile. You can add this ppa via commandline by running
echo 'deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian/ sid contrib' > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/sidcontrib.list
then run
apt-get update
apt-get check
apt-get install sabnzbdplus
It really shouldnt be any harder. Good luck.
Also beware of the misspelling of sabnzbdplus in dhubs post above
sabnzbdplus seems very well written and has great features, however runs heavy and somewhat slow on dns323 min recomended HW spec is 256MB RAM. If your looking for lean fast and effiecient nzbget is the client you want.

HI bjby
I get a error SABnzbd+ binary newsgrabber: not configured, aborting. See /etc/default/sabnzbdplus ... (warning).
Offline
so you manage to install it, great.
Surly you can find a solution from info here http://forums.sabnzbd.org/
Offline
bjby, I didn't have to enable any additional repos on my debian squeeze to be able to install sabnzbdplus...
Offline
I dont think contrib is included by default in a plain debian install. I know little of the alt-f debian environment. But as you state it is included also in squeeze.
http://packages.debian.org/search?keywo … ection=all
Extract as of today:
Package sabnzbdplus
squeeze (stable) (net): web-based binary newsgrabber with nzb support [contrib]
0.5.4-1: all
wheezy (testing) (net): web-based binary newsgrabber with nzb support [contrib]
0.5.6-1: all
sid (unstable) (net): web-based binary newsgrabber with nzb support [contrib]
0.5.6-1: all

well here is what i did to get Sabnzb to install...
I used Alt-F 0.1b7 (flashed) as firmware - I imagine reloaded will be fine.
1) Install the debian squeeze (1.04) package provided by dhub from his repo (http://ipkg.dhub.me/unstable).
2) Install python + other dependancies needed.
apt-get -y install unzip par2 python-dev python-cheetah python-cherrypy unrar-free
3) Install sabnzb
a) Download the latest version ofSABnzbd SOURCE.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/sabnzbd … z/download to Volume_1/Linux/opt/
b) Unzip SABNZBD.
cd /opt
tar -zxvf /opt/SABnzbd-0.5.6-src.tar.gz
c) Start the SABnzb in the foreground with the following command:
/opt/SabNZBd/python SABnzbd.py
When it stops listing text of what it just did, Stop the process with CTRL+C.
This creates sabnzbd.ini
d) Edit /root/.sabnzbd/sabnzbd.ini
and change
host=localhost
to
host=<ip address of nas>
e) Start the process and run it.
python /opt/SABnzbd/SABnzbd.py -d -f ~/.sabnzbd/sabnzbd.ini
f) In web browser go to <the ip of your nas>:8080/sabnzbd
This got me to the standard sabnzbd wizard, i did'nt fully test it because I had more to install - but it was running fine
I then moved on to Couchpotato, and SickBeard Which also installed and ran fine.
The problem I am having is getting the 323 to auto-boot dhub's debian squeeze, I've ticked the auto-boot option in services page of Alt-f (and saved), but it simply won't work. I've tried it on 2 different 323's... flashed and reloaded.
Sorry to hijack a thread - but any help would be appreciated . Can anyone get it to auto-boot, or does it just not work?
I live in an area with frequent power cuts, and need everything to load automatically, so my wife can just switch the 323 back on when neccesary...

Those packages are for a debian squeeze chroot environment. Since it's a chroot it doesn't run the debian init process (and thereby the debian start scripts) when Alt-F boots.
Instead, I built sabnzbdplus packages for alt-f that install alt-f start/stop and web interface scripts so that sabnzbd in the debian chroot could be started/stopped/managed as normal alt-f services via the Alt-F web GUI. Since you manually installed the package, you should be able to extract the alt-f start/stop scripts from my package and set them up or modify as desired. The same scripts should also work with minor modifications for the other stuff you installed.
I don't do much with the alt-f based chroot environment anymore since I am now directly reloading debian squeeze without alt-f.

Please correct me if I have'nt understood this correctly...
1) The debian chroot process won't start. (despite auto-boot being ticked in the web interface), unless a package that uses it,
(like your sabnzbd) is installed and started in the web interface.
(My debian chroot does not run automatically on boot or reboot - I have to manually start it in the web interface every time.)
2) Using your start/stop scripts - I should be able to make my own, (for my manually installed apps), and these in turn would autostart the debian chroot on boot, and the relevant app should start.
Also I think some of the packages are not in repo, so I can't grab them to look at the start/stop scripts
I get this error when installing sabnzbd
Installing debian-sabzndbplus (1.0.0) to /Alt-F...
Downloading http://ipkg.dhub.me/unstable/debian-sab … .0_arm.ipk
Nothing to be done
An error ocurred, return value: 22.

Failed to download debian-sabzndbplus. Perhaps you need to run 'ipkg update'?
When I check the repo manually I can't find the package,
Do you mind reposting it (or just the files to help with the start/stop problem).
Thanks

It's was my experience when I did eventually get sabnzbd to run on the DNS-323 that it was incredibly slow and resource hungry. I lost a hard drive and I partially blame the fact that sabnzbd was spinning them constantly although it could have just been a defective drive (it was about 8 months old). YMMV but I'm just warning you to not expect very good performance out of your NAS. Perhaps if you were using it to only run sabnzbd you'll be ok.
If you find that I'm wrong please let me know in pm. I'd be happy to try it out again.
