Hi guys
I'm hoping someone can help me out. I have a DNS 321 that is running the built-in Samba , and I need access to the dirsort vfs object, however that is not included in the package. I've tried compiling the dirsort as described here against the 3.0.28 source (that is the built-in Samba's version), but unsurprisingly that didn't go down too well.
Next I installed the Samba 3.4.6 funplug package made by rcblackwell, and it works perfectly with the dirsort, BUT now my disk doesn't ever spin down - not even when nothing is accessing it from the network. I guess samba runs off of the disk continuously... Because I have a 321 I can't put ffp on a usb stick, and I am worried that my disk will die a premature death if it never spins down.
Is there a way to somehow run samba in a way to allow the disk to spin down? Does anyone have any experience in running 3.4.6 on a dns-321?
Alternatively would anyone have any idea how to compile dirsort for the built-in samba? Could I potentially try to compile it against a different version of samba (I think the site mentions 3.2.3 as tested)?
Obviously I am not much of a Linux whiz.
Thanks for any advice you guys may be able to offer.
