DNS 323 UPnP server tried 4 with no luck - please help the noob

Hi,

I AM A NOOB, please only throw soft stuff at the noob big_smile

I have been trying for days to get a UPnP server running, with mixed results and much frustration.

what i can do/have done.

i have installed the Fonz fun_plug script using this tutorial --> http://nas-tweaks.net/40/installation-o … many-more/

and optware using this tutorial --> http://dns323.kood.org/howto:optware

i then installed ushare. Now i have got it all installed but i must be missing something with the config file, ushare.conf, becuase i can not get this started.

http://www.serviio.org/download

So i tried serviio got it all installed, well unpacked, into the right locations but i can not get java installed. To be honest i have no idea if java would run very well on the device as java is a resource hog. i really wish i could find a tutorial or blog on how to set java up, if its possible. A step by step guide for us noobs, using bash commands because so many guides i read are using other commands that bash does not like.

http://www.tvmobili.com/   download here-> http://www.tvmobili.com/release-candidate/

i then tried TVMOBiLi. i love this thing and run a server on my windows PC, serving files to my Andriod devices and TV, and would really like to get it running on the NAS. I got as far as installing and getting it running. I could not get it streaming a it kept telling me that i had a Multicast Adapters error in the config file. I tried all i could but could also not get it working.

i have also installed had Debian lenny up and running. i used this guide http://www.ahmadhisyam.com/dns-323-chro … tallation/ but see no reason why i should need it to get a UPnP server up and running.

Could anyone help with getting any of these up and running. 1st choice would be to get TVMOBiLi running big_smile

thx,

EDIT:

http://www.twonky.com/

the other one i tried, and the only one that worked, sort of, was twonky. The file types it supports are not great, i don't think, and i really don't want ot have to pay for something to do what i need.

I just use the onboard one. Ok, it needs to be refreshed for new content but works fine!

well after installing the new patch it is a lot better, but its not great. You have no  real control of thing and it does not show artwork etc.

I have been looking at mediatomb now.

my biggest issue, being a noob to all this, is that there is a lot of stuff you can do with this NAS but a lot of the guides are commands that are not allowed by your SSH session because you need to install or config this or that.

It would really nice to have one or two guides explaining things a bit better, for the real noob. I do know my way around once pointed in the right direction.

the fonz fun plug install is great until you need to start getting things fine tuned or need to do a bit more than average configing to get what ever you are installing working correctly or with one or two other thing. And this is were i get lost.

I bought this NAS for multimedia storage. Don't really need transcoding, although it would be nice, as i recode all my media anyway.

Hi JonnyRock,

did you manage to get Serviio running on your nas?

i have just purchased a Sony bravia, that for some reason sony dropped support for mkv / avi from a DLNA source
it has been suggested Serviio could serve these files with some transcoding if the DNS-320 is up to it
