fun_pack on RAID-1: need info on storage directory structure

i just bought a DNS-323 with two 2 TB disks, upgraded the firmware to v1.10 and have the system configured in RAID-1.  I plan to use this drive for backing up work files, and storage for media files.  when I installed fun_pack, everything went fine but i'm a bit confused by the directory structre.  Can anyone tell me what the /mnt/HD_a2, /mnt/HD_a4, and /mnt/HD_b2 directories are?  I'm a bit confused by what those are physically.

Also, when the disks are configured in RAID-1, am I actually seeing both disks when I logon with telnet, or am I just seeing Volume_1?

And finally, where in this directory structure would be the best place to store my work and media files.  Can I just put those in Volume_1, or should I be putting them in ffp or something?

Thanks!

Re: fun_pack on RAID-1: need info on storage directory structure

Perhaps a little research into linux is in order.

A storage disk needs to be "partitioned" or if you like divided into different areas or partitions before it can be used (even if it's only going to be one single partition), and in linux these partitions are then mounted so they can be made accessible.

HD_a2 would be one such partition - actually the second partition on the first hard drive, HD_a4 is another partition, the fourth partition on the first drive, and HD_b2 is yet another, the second partition but this time on the second hard drive (a is the first drive, b is the second)

Your files need to be stored in folders that you will create in Volume_1 - ideally you will do this through Windows explorer (assuming you're using Windows on the client side) and what you are seeing in telnet depends on what you tell it you want to look at, you can look at the individual partitions if you know where to look.

1) Original DLINK firmware creates following volumes  in case of 2 HDD:
- two swap partitions (one on each hdd) [/dev/sda1 and /dev/sdb1]
- two applications partitions (one on each hdd) [dev/sda2 and /dev/sdb2 -> mounted as /mnt/HD_a2 and /mnt/HD_b2]
All add-ons goes to partition in first inserted hdd (IMHO). No movies or music here smile
- one (RAID1 or RAID0) partition for user data (on both hdd) [/dev/md0  -> mounted as /mnt/HD_a4]
This is partition is shared as Volume_1 or as you like and this is place for all stuff.

2) You can not see separate (physical) RAID parts from anywhere. You can work only with logical volume, what is build on to HDD.

Hope i'm right, because this is from head.

Ooops! I did it again...
