Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

Hi all,
Open question: What do you guys think about firmware 1.09?
I currently have firmware 1.05 installed and I am considering upgrading to 1.09. Have you had any problems with it?
Thanks!

Unless there is a particular feature or bug fix that you need you may as well stay with 1.05. But, if you are installing new disks or formatting anyway, then I'd suggest upgrading. Personally I always run the latest versions.
If you plan on running disks greater than 2TB then you should consider the 1.10 beta or wait for the official release. In my case, I formatted my 2TB drives with the 1.10b07 then loaded 1.09 on again.

Hi,
Thanks for your advices. Does the firmware 1.09 would prevent me from using fun_plug or anything else I currently use with 1.05? Do I have to reconfigure everything if I upgrade?
Thanks!

No, it just upgrades the FW of the unit, does not affect your drives. If you have FFP installed before the upgrade, everything will work the same after the upgrade.

One thing to be aware of is that the FW v. 1.09 ftp server does not allow the chmod command anymore. This is only a problem in the "old" days of installing a fresh fun_plug when it was a crucial step. I am now told xfers by samba automatically give full permissions so in these instances this is not a concern. Me personally I have found smb mounts with dns-323 buggy (years ago) so I avoid them (the latest servers/clients could be better though). If you have an existing fun_plug then you should have no problems. If you have problems with samba and are performing a fresh fun_plug install, you can install the old FW, use ftp to chmod things appropriately then upgrade back up to v1.09.
