How to copy data and settings when replacing main hard drive?

Currently my dns 323 has one 2tb in the right hand drive(vol 1) set up as single disk. I want to replace that drive with another 2 tb of a different brand. I have copied my data to a different location but now, i wish to copy the system files(optware, fun plug, transmission, etc..) to the new drive so that it will run exactly the way as it did when the new drive is inserted.

Any suggestions on the best way to do this?

You need to copy back the files with right permission and ownership.

There are many ways. Make a tar archive exclude all big media. Format the new disk in dns323, untar the files.
