Drives not spinning down anymore?

Hello, I noticed a problem with my DNS-323 recently. I had it for about 2 months now, and it used to be running just fine. I was leaving it on 24/7 for a while, but last week I shut it down for a couple days while I re-arranged my home office. Now when I turn it on, it seems like the drives never spin down anymore, even if I have the power management setting set to do so after 10 minutes. Nothing is connected to the unit, and I didn't change any settings, it's weird. Anyone else experience this problem before?

Re: Drives not spinning down anymore?

Yes - and - one common cause is documented in the wiki along with the fix - were you using the print server feature?

Re: Drives not spinning down anymore?

hmm, not really. i had set up the printer very early on. I successfully printed one test page when I first got the device and then never printed anything else, and the unit worked fine. I just printed another test page, and it still isn't turning off after the set timeout.

Re: Drives not spinning down anymore?

Hi,
from my experience -it doesn't matter if you printed correctly or not. All printed jobs are still inside .lpd directory. DNS can spin down the drives only till next power-up.
There is workaround. I added the line to fun_plug:
/sys/crfs/LPRng/lprm all
which removes all the jobs from printer queue at power-up (never mind if already printed or not). Works correctly, fw 1.03.

Re: Drives not spinning down anymore?

Thanks, that seems to have done the trick. I'm going to add that info to the wiki.

man, if it wasn't for the wiki and these forums, owning the DNS-323 would be quite a frustrating experience.
