New release of miniDLNA - How to update it in Alt-F package

Hello,

yesterday miniDLNA 1.0.22 was released on Sourceforge.net. How can I update my existing installation of miniDLNA on my Alt-F powered DNS-323? Do I have to uninstall the current miniDLNA 1.0.21 from my HDD and reinstall it over the Alt-F package manager? Or do I have to update the package manager first? Can this list only be updated from Joao or from anyone else?

Final question: How do I update from miniDLNA 1.021 to 1.022?

Thank you in advance for your answers and have a nice weekend!

Tom

Re: New release of miniDLNA - How to update it in Alt-F package

I use to announce news or updated packages under the "News" topic in the Alt-F forum.

When a package is updated, you should hit the "Update Package list" button, and the new package will appear, together with an "Update" button -- just hit it, your previous configuration will be kept.

I have just updated the minidlna package, but had to opportunity to test it...

Re: New release of miniDLNA - How to update it in Alt-F package

Hello Joao,

thank you very much for your quick support. The update is working fine. But now I have two other problems. My DNS-323 does not power off correctly. It spins down both hdds, but does not power off completely (two middle leds still flash blue). Comlete shut down was working twice for me.

The miniDLNA service does not run automatically. Whenever I turn on the DNS-323 I must start the service manually. Of course I have stored any changes in the flash memory before.

Do you or does anybody else here have an idea?

Thank you for your comments and regards

Tom

Crazy, got the same phenomena after update, i had to click the autostart button several times before it stayed ticked and will be saveable. Anything else in this minidlna update works well, i like this tiny server:-)

hmm, yes, I have to check this. I think the reason is that the initscripts are run very early in the boot sequence, before the filesystem that contains Alt-F packages is available.
If this is the reason, than no package-provided services will be "boot-startable" -- odd that nobody complained yet ;-)

As for slow start/stop, this is specific of some (badly designed) programs. minidlna is slow to stop, after you stop it it immediately logs "signal received, bye", but might take one or two *minutes* to effectively stop. Other programs are slow to provide output when started, generally this happens on its first start, as they are scanning the disk/files.

Thanks.
