Hi,

just got a Conceptronic CH3SNAS device (see http://www.conceptronic.nl/site/desktop … od=CH3SNAS) which is indeed a twin of the DNS-323. I confirmed it by installing the fun_plug script and I got telnet going using the files from the wiki

BTW, Conceptronic released the source code of the firmware on their support server (see http://www.conceptronic.nl/site/desktop … ;subid=555).

Just looking at the first page in that link - I'm inclined to say, it's not a twin - of course, you could have a different interpretation of "twin", here's why.

Besides your media backup, it’s a full function NAS server with 400 MHz Intel FreeScale CPU and built-in FTP server for file access via Internet and access-right management features to give users different read and/or write permission in the (Gigabit) network

As far as I know the DNS-323 is not an Intel powered device, it uses a Marvel Feroceon processor.

I will admit the similarities are uncanny, right down to the packaging.

Maybe the listed specs are incorrect? It does look like a case of "separated at birth."

I'm not going to say it's impossible - looks to me like the only difference lies in the front panel cosmetics and the web interface.

But, I've seen stuff from different manufacturers that was identical under the skins, and I've seen stuff from the same manufacturer that was completely different under the same skin, and with the same part number - so it can go either way.

I believe I read somewhere that the DNS-323 is being built for D-Link by a third party, it wouldn't be the first time that identical product shows up under a different label. As an example, you can interchange the parts between Dell's Inspiron 3000 and HP's Omnibook 3000 and I believe they came out of the same factory.

Now here's what's bothering me - and I'm no microprocessor guru - but I can't find anything about an Intel Freescale CPU, in fact it, it seems they are business competitors with Freescale being created in 2004, from what was once known as Motorola.

It has to be the same thing. Intel sold its Xscale division to Marvell a year ago. Xscale is an ARM-based processor. It's probably easier for them to advertise it's an Intel than Marvell, but this isn't accurate anymore... they really should say Marvell and so that 3/4 of the people will say "huh??" The Conceptronic is from Tulip Computers, and Tulip is a very respectable company in Europe. They OEM a lot of stuff from many companies worldwide and put their name or their subsidiary's name on it.

^ no. I didn't quite pay attention to what you said earlier but now that you mentioned it here, Freescale is a Motorola spin-off... nothing to do with Intel. Yes, methinks the product guy at Conceptronic really needs to revise some specs quick...

updated firmware is not ready yet. Project just launched, means that MP has been done some months ago and updates will be later unfortunately.
the 3x samba needs somewhat more memory so some redesign could be necessary and takes some time

Hi,

let me tell you, it *is* the very same hardware. It uses the 500MHz Marvel/exIntel Xscale CPU and matches exactly the hardware info and board pictures from the wiki. Even the dmesg output is the same! As mentioned before, I got the telnet binaries working which I downloaded from your wiki.
There is no such thing like an "Intel Freescale CPU" - someone mixed up Xscale with Freescale. Funny, everybody is just copying this error - saw it in multiple places in the Web.

When looking at the price point of the CH3SNAS it appears that it is cheaper than the Dlink Box.
(about 140 Euros in Germany compared with ~ 200 for the D-Link Box).
So with this in mind we can hope that even more people jump onto this box. Thinking further this means some more smart people (like here in the forum) dealing with the box and solving nearly every problem for us ... Time to open the champagne !

im running whit the webserver from the ch3snas and the webfiles from it too.

have compilet a small thing in to the webserver also

who like to try to upload this fw, its the stock fw for the CH3SNAS whit updateted busybox

file is to big for the forum.
