Hi
unfortunately none of the onboard dlna server packages work completely right for me
now i know of a good server and they even supply a .ipk file for this type of box (ive noticed installing packages using .ipk files to install)
so im wondering how to install these packages from an outside source? or even jcard if your nice enough, add this to your list of packages
the server is called TVmobili and have a web address of www.tvmobili.com
with instructions please take into account i am basically a linux virgin
Thanks again for the great firmware for my 323

Unfortunately TVmobili needs library libstdc++.so.5 and Alt-F uses /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6, so no luck!

damn ok
thanks anyway
after some playing around i seem to have minidlna working, seemingly quite well actually
i am having some trouble with doubles and sometimes no shows with the searching/indexing but im pretty sure that has to do with the Revue's media player and not minidlna
thanks sooo much for this custom firmware, you have saved my nas from technical bricking when i had a original firmware glitch
i look forward to updates
again i cant thank you enough jcard, any way i can donate to the alt-f cause?

If you are technically inclined and still have access to a box with the stock firmware, you can copy the libstdc++.so.5 file and drop it in the /usr/lib/ directory -- I've not tried it, but I think that it will work.
You must have at least one Alt-F package installed in order for the new file survive a reboot.
A similar reasoning must apply to twonky, but I think that I'm not allowed to redistribute files from the vendor's firmware.

There is a link for that in Alt-F homepage.
Donations are intended to buy new hardware, I will buy the beer myself
And the new hardware is intended to keep me away from newspapers headlines

Hi jcard,
I just installed Alt-f RC1 snapshot2.
I was wondering, which packages are better to install alt-f or ffp?
can i install lighttpd from outside the source?
like from up here?

Google changed something, it was working... I edit it and it seems to be working again.
Thanks

Remember that "snapshot" does mean "under development". As there has been some changes to the system libraries some packages in the unstable feed might not work.
I'm currently in the process of rebuild and test all packages, in order to release RC1.
I was wondering, which packages are better to install alt-f or ffp?
If there is an Alt-F equivalent package, then use the Alt-F package, as it will be more integrated; if not, use ffp.
But remember, you should disable all non-needed ffp services that might conflict with Alt-F. If you install ffp using Alt-F webgui package manager this is already done for you.

No, optware packages don't run under Alt-F.
Remember that Alt-F webGUI already uses port 80, so if you are going to use lighttpd you must set it up to use a different port.

Keep snapshot2 and report any problems you find.
You are now a beta² (beta-beta) tester, thanks
Anyway RC1 is not far away.

I flashed back to B7 but samba is not as good as on snapshot2.
because you can't assign users to have their own map which is password protected.
So I will be flashing back to snapshot2 and report if I find any problems

Probably nothing, should be minidlna or Alt-F fault.
Can you check if the new share is recognized by minidlna? System->Utilities->View Logs->/var/log/minidlna.log
minidlna has currently (at least) two problems:
-It is very slow to stop: can take a minute or two to *cleanly* terminate after receiving the signal to do it and logging that it is going to stop (I could force it to do a fast *unclean* shutdown, but I'm avoiding to do it)
-It does not has a mechanism to be signaled that the configuration file has changed, and that it must re-read it and scan new directories, so the only way is to stop and restart it. This, allied to the first problem, makes adding new shares a lengthy task.
The next log excerpt shows what happens when it is running and a new share is added:
[2011/09/28 17:58:32] minidlna.c:154: warn: received signal 15, good-bye
[2011/09/28 18:00:36] minidlna.c:900: warn: Starting MiniDLNA version 1.0.22 [SQLite 3.6.16].
It took 2 minutes! So the best it to add shares when it is stopped.
BUT it seems to not recognize new shares, it seems that you have to force a full rescan.
For now, you have to resort to the command line for this:
minidlna -F # force a full rescan
But it should not be running. If it is running, stop it first. From the command line:
rcminidlna stop
rcmidlna status # repeat (2 mins!) until it is stopped
I will add a button to the webgui to force a rescan. TODO2:
minidlna: add a button to the webgui to force a rescan. Predate minidlna.conf to signal this,
using a commented line to not fool minidlna: #rescan=yes
Does anybody know if there is a minidlna forum or mailing-list to report problems?
Thanks,
Joao

You have to login the box, using either a telnet or a ssh client. I think that MS-Win has a telnet client (perhaps you have to activate it as a windows functionality).
So, telnet or ssh the box, login as user 'root' using the webgui password, and you are on the command line with top privileges; type (first make sure minidlna is stopped)
minidlna -R
and that's it, you can logout ('exit' or CTRL-D)
I have already added a "Force Rescan" button on the minidlna webgui.

I just installed snapshot 2 again.
Now user management is messed up.
When i create a new user. A new map in users is created but it isn't password protected and ftp with that user doesn't work.
Reboot doesn't help either.
Is there a way to fix this?

force rescan didnt work, sort of... the rescan happened but i have about 250 video folders on nas, the rescan only seems to do the first 80 folders and no further, dunno why
so i tried ushare, it works but only plays vid for 2 mins then it stops and server disappears, if i restart media player, server shows again but then plays for only 2 mins etc etc
i tried fuppes, nothing shows on media player
then i tried mediatomb, if i try start it, just says starting mediatomb: Fail. if i try configure it, says, mediatomb.cgi: eval: line 1: syntax error: unexpected end of file
so please help with any one of these problems i NEED a dlna server it is the ONLY point for my NAS

Where are the logs?
Are the 250 files in a single folder? on a single folder with 250 folders? Organized be Author/Actor/Genre?
How many files the log says it indexed? (after a rescan that info is shown)
Its odd that the first 80 work, not the others -- it might be a single file that produces the problem, and scanning stops there, it might be that the directory structure is too wide or too deep... it might be a minidlna problem, not Alt-F fault...
so i tried ushare, it works but only plays vid for 2 mins then it stops and server disappears, if i restart media player, server shows again but then plays for only 2 mins etc etc
ushare is quite old.
i tried fuppes, nothing shows on media player
fuppes is also "old".
My media player doesn't work with *any* of Alt-F shipped media servers! I had to set it up to use samba. That's the reason there are so many upnp/dlna servers in Alt-F
then i tried mediatomb, if i try start it, just says starting mediatomb: Fail. if i try configure it, says, mediatomb.cgi: eval: line 1: syntax error: unexpected end of file

You have to provide details, such as logs, and try to diagnose the problem the most. I can't run your system to see what is wrong.
[Added] Do you have setup a swap partition on your disks? What does the Status show in the System section, swap?

[Added] Do you have setup a swap partition on your disks? What does the Status show in the System section, swap?
no i have no swap partition set, unless it sets one automatically
the logs showed an error
scanner.c:499: warn: Unsuccessful getting details for /mnt/sda2/Fullmetal Alchemist - Brotherhood/FMA Brotherhood - 41 The Abyss.avi!
but then nothing after that, no completion message or other error message. it almost seemed as if something was interrupting it, would trying to write something to the disk do that?
ON A GOOD NOTE. i uninstalled minidlna, rebooted the nas and installed again, then tried again. it worked fine same error messages but had a completion message
scanner.c:499: warn: Unsuccessful getting details for /mnt/sda2/Fullmetal Alchemist - Brotherhood/FMA Brotherhood - 41 The Abyss.avi!
scanner.c:797: warn: Scanning /mnt/sda2 finished (3044 files)!
maybe i was too impatient, maybe something was interrupting it but it worked fine this time, just hope i dont have to do that every time i add new folders, but if i do oh well i know how to get it now. so thanks
still curious on the minidlna webgui tho? how do i access it? like i said ive seen no indication of one, thought it didnt have one

If you have use Alt-F Disk Wizard, one is created for you on each disk.
Or if your disks has been partitioned by the vendor's firmware, and you have not partitioned them manually, it is also there. If you have partitioned disks manually, you *have* to create one swap partition.
Anyway, what does the Status page, System section, Swap?
> ON A GOOD NOTE. i uninstalled minidlna
That is not going to help. The private directory of packages, in this case /var/lib/minidlna, is not destroyed, so files.db, that is where minidlna stores media information, is still there.
Before removing and reinstalling (this is not windows, you know:) have you tried to stop and restart the service? If you don't have a swap partition and the problem for the first incomplete log was lack of memory, then the second run would start where the first left (this is an hypothesis) and then memory could be enough for what was left of the scan.
It could also happens that the file that generated the warning was marked as problematic and bypassed on the second run.
Who knows? Excluding the lack of memory/swap, it is a problem for the minidlna developer to solve.
> just hope i dont have to do that every time i add new folders
I was able to reproduce your problem when adding to the configuration a directory tree outside the existing share. Adding a directory *inside* the existing share should be no problem, minidlna notices new files and directory appearing.
Please report back if this is not the case.

It wasn't a Alt-F problem. found out that you use your nickname to login to login to ftp and your name to login to samba.
Also when youre logged in to samba windows saves your user login of some time.

ok drive (only have 1 currently) was formatted via vendor firmware. status page does say i have a swap, (Swap: 7.9/509 MB) the things you learn...
and i have added some new stuff, same problem again, will try force rescan soon
not sure what you mean *outside* directory tree, as the share i do is, /mnt/sda2 (root directory), i just share everything because its only videos on drive
will let you know how this rescan goes, and i will keep an eye on swap
Thanks again

Hi
i havent done a full rescan in a while, as minidlna was keeping up with adding new stuff on its own
but lately, a few files havent been auto added, so i decided to do a full rescan
and apparently im having the same problem, rescan stops (or at least does not complete) no error or fail messages, have some warn messages but same as always
[2012/01/06 22:26:32] scanner.c:499: warn: Unsuccessful getting details for /mnt/sda2/Batman The Dark Knight/the_dark_knight_thumb.jpg!
[2012/01/06 22:31:27] scanner.c:499: warn: Unsuccessful getting details for /mnt/sda2/Breaking Bad/Season 4/Breaking.Bad.S04E13.Face.Off.HDTV.XviD-FQM.avi!

gets *maybe* 15% through scan before stopping, giving me very little available for viewing
have tried many things, stopping and restarting service, rebooting and retrying, shut down and left off for a while then retrying, uninstalling and reinstalling then retrying
have tried webgui rescan, telnet rescan
im out of ideas, please help
