Unfortunately no one can be told what fun_plug is - you have to see it for yourself.

Hi Folks,
my DND323 will not accept a device name through the web interface, in either Device or Wizard, I call it dns-323 or anything else and it comes back with □ or other spurious characters.
I cant access my Volume_1 share through windows any more, the files are there in ftp and telnet.
The Upnp media server shows the typed in name as does the ftp site.
I have reinstalled the firmware (removed fun plug first) but to no avail.
Is there a way to set the name of the device from a telnet session? maybe reshare manually with samba?
would a factory reset mean I loose all my data?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Hi Index Monkey,
Not sure if it is relevant, have you got the language set correctly?.
As for a factory reset - did that myself this afternoon - Raid1 500gb x2 HDD - NO data loss - YMMV though....
let us know how things go..

You may try to retrieve the samba config from the web interface, and see if it's got broken somewhere.
Go to Tools/System/Configuration Settings and select Save. Open the file with an editor that uses unix line ens (no CR, just LF) and locate the smb.conf part of the file. It starts at the fourth semicolon of the config dump. Check the "netbios name =" and "server string =" lines. You may edit the file quite freely, but the dns-323 will mangle some options. (For instance if you want to create your own shares you need to use some other caplitalization of "path" or the shares will be redirected to the default web_page share path (path = /mnt/web_page).
If you know alot about samba you can make quite some improvements there. (For instance by removing the line security = SHARE and set up proper samba users (the smbpasswd files follows the fifth semicolon and the system passwd file follows the ninth semicolon and the group file follows the eleventh) or if you use the unit with a linux system you might want to add unix extensions = yes to the global options.

I did a reset, all came back okay.
Found an issue with an mldonkey torrent that was getting to 99% and failing to complete. Found others had this issue on the forum, apparently requires a chroot jail to prevent issue.
used sancho to copy torrent files locally, deleted the errant torrent and all appears okay now.
Thanks for the tip of editing the config backup with vi.
cheers.
