Is there some sort of step by step guide for linux morons to get transmission installed...  I have been satisfied with the built in torrent app, until magnet links took over, and the app doesn't support them.

So I would like to get Transmission up and running, I downloaded the files in the beginning of this thread, and I understand and can read the code commands in this post, but I need a 'step 1'

So I have my DNS-323 turned on, with firmware 1.08.

Now what?  I am a linux dummy.

Is there such a guide posted anywhere?

I have a mac, and I think there may be an app that will allow me to connect to the DNS once at that step, but I don't even know which one to use.

Anyone with patience willing to help?

just replace the correct Transmission version,

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Transmission has been quitting randomly since I updated to v2.50 - logging into the CLI and running '/ffp/start/transmission.sh start' gets it going again, but only for a while until it decides to quit again. Anyone else having similar problems?

I'm not that fluent with linux CLI, so if there's additional info that would be helpful, let me know how to get it and I'll post here.

Thanks.

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

I have updated my fun plug to 0.7 so I reinstalled everything clean
I use transmission 2.50 from Kylek, and for some reason when I add a magnet in the url bar it works but then it never downloads any info, the progress bar remains red...
Any idea ?

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Do you have PEX and DHT enabled? I believe magnet URIs don't work without either or both of these features (I'm not 100% sure though).

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

What does the log say?
You also might want to crank the message-level up to 4 (in settings.json, quit Transmission before editing the file, otherwise any manual changes get overwritten).

I have no issue with Transmission quitting or with Magnet links.

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Edit:
I have retrieved logs, were too many entries to find something usable
stopped the daemon
deleted the log file (to start clean)
restarted the deamon
added a magnet (to test and get logs)
...
Guess what
...

works now

Sry for the bother (happy now)

Hello!

Link to Transmission 2.50  (ffp-0.7-arm) is broken. Can anyone upload the file to another location?

Thanks in advance!

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

There is a folder where to put the torrents and the application itself automatically download them? .. without having to go to the web interface?

I upload the torrent to a specific folder via ftp and the application itself starts to download????

Yes, you just need to set the 'watch-dir' in your settings file.

Code:

    "watch-dir": "/some/folder/to/watch",
    "watch-dir-enabled": true

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Hi,

I have a DNS-345 i have installed transmission 2.50 following the various tutorials using funplug 05 but i have a problem
either running through command line or the webinterface transmission generates a lot of errors related to "crypto":
command line:
tr_crypto: error:00000000:lib(0):func(0):reason(0)
and in the transmission-daemon.log:
tr_crypto error:24064064:random number generator:SSLEAY_RAND_BYTES:PRNG not seeded (crypto.c:113)

in the log file this error is continuously being generated the log file gets to a enormous size quick, also it seems that
transmission is like hogging all the cpu power webinterface get's non responsive.

Any info on how to solve this would be apreciated
Thx

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Do you install optware and ffp in parallel? Looks like a library conflict to me.
Or the crypto lib depends on some system function that is not available on the DNS-345.
What's the result of 'uname -a'?

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

This might also be an issue with a newer version of OpenSSL. Which version did you install/is installed?
Also, are we talking about ffp-0.7-arm or ffp-0.5?

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

My result for uname -a is:
Linux dlink-D3F943 2.6.31.8 #1 Thu Sep 8 11:55:06 CST 2011 armv5tel unknown

Also using ffp-05 and transmission 2.50

I have found a way to mitigate the problem after doing a search on the web:
if you do:

rm /dev/random
rm /dev/urandom

and then

mknod -m 666 /dev/random c 1 8
mknod -m 666 /dev/urandom c 1 9

the problem goes away but it return later on usually from what i have seen till now a few minutes after the start
of a new day the error returns and you have to do the same thing again to solve it, i don't really know what these commands do.

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

True, it makes it work, Thanks a lot Vhsfi wink

But if there is a way to make it work longer than 24hours.... maybe is there a way to make a script launched at about 00:30 that repeat this action?

The better way is to find why and to fix it, but I'm definitely a noob using Linux. sad

Hi I compiled Transmission 2.51 on DNS-320 for ffp 0.7-arm. It is reachable here:

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Transmission 2.51 for ffp-0.7-arm is now available in my repository as well (see first post).
The changes are _very_ minor.

I'll make a package for ffp-0.5 ASAP (I'll need to reboot my NAS for this, and for that I'd rather be at home smile.
