Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Ok, the site is up again, and Transmission 2.52 is now available in all 3 flavors: ffp-0.5, ffp-0.7-arm, and ffp-0.7-oabi(!).

Check the first post for download links.

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

I am experiencing problems with a private tacker.
I am sharing some 30 torrents on my dns-325 and I get some error: Tracker: Could not connect to tracker
Then, while you reconnect, but there are two or 3 in error. it is due?

Another thing, the choice of disk cache size is 2MG. What value should be put?

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Newbie here, will be grateful for some help with initial setup.  Numbered my questions to make the post easier to read.

1.  I installed Transmission 2.52 to my DNS-325 running ffp 0.7.  It works, but I don't have a /ffp/start folder or the transmission.sh file that goes in that folder.   How can I get that file?  Right now, I use the following command to start Transmission (the username and password are for a new account I created for this purpose using the DNS-325 web interface):

transmission-daemon -g /mnt/HD/HD_a2/.transmission-daemon -u <username> -v <password>

2.  On the DNS-325, how many torrents is it safe to run at once?  Can you have over 50 torrents seeding (with only a few actually uploading) without issue?

3. When I try to modify folders created by Transmission using Windows XP (with the DNS-325 mapped as a network drive), I get permissions errors.  Is there any way to reconfigure Transmission so I can modify the files/folders from my PC?  I get the errors when I move folders (even if Transmission isn't running) or try to add files to folders created by Transmission.

Some details below about my installation process.  They're probably irrelevant, but may help explain why I don't have an ffp/start folder with transmission.sh.

I ran into a few problems during setup.  First, "funpkg -i curl-7.18.1.tgz" and "funpkg -i Transmission-2.52-1.tgz" didn't work (returned file not found errors) at first.  I had to use wget to put the files in /ffp/pkg, which didn't exist until I created it using mkdir.

Second, I ran different variations of the following command until I found one that worked:

$ su nobody -c "transmission-daemon -f -g /mnt/HD_a2/.transmission-daemon -w /mnt/HD_a2/Downloads -t -u <username> -v <password> -a 127.0.0.1,192.168.*.*"

After running it as pasted above, I changed /mnt/HD_a2/Downloads to /mnt/HD/HD_a2/Downloads.  Also, I first ran it as root, then I created a new user and am now running it with the new user.  I think I gave the new user permission to modify the .transmission-daemon and downloads folders, but I'm not sure.

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Hm,  I somehow suspect your ffp installation is borked.
The /ffp/start folder is part of fun plug and should be there from the start.
Every Transmission package contains the start script (transmission.sh) and copies it to /ffp/start.

On ffp-0.7 we distinguish between arm and panic devices. You should be careful to only use packages that fit the ffp base installation.

Please carefully read the first post of this thread, all your other issues should not happen if you follow the directions that are written there.

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Also, a little reminder: any packages ending with .tgz are for ffp-0.5.
Packages for ffp-0.7-arm end in arm-1.txz
Packages for ffp-0.7-oabi end in oabi-1.txz

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

I installed ffp from the arm directory on fonz's site (I am using a DNS-325), and it contains a fun_plug.tgz file: http://www.inreto.de/ffp/0.7/arm/.  For transmission, I used curl-7.21.4-arm-1.txz and Transmission-2.52-arm-1.txz.

I don't understand why my ffp install might have failed - it seemed to be just a simple matter of extracting the .tgz file on reboot.  Maybe I was supposed to edit the install script for the DNS-325 before running it.

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Yes, that particular install script is meant for the DNS-323 devices. It has some paths wrong.
But as a result, you shouldn't have any ffp installation available at all!

If you haven't installed/configured that many programs, I suggest you start fresh with a new ffp-0.7-arm installation.
Use this fun_plug script instead of the original from fonz, as this one also works properly on the DNS-325.

Don't unpack and .tgz or .txz packages manually, use slacker or funpkg instead.

Regarding your issues with renaming downloaded files etc.: The default installation of Transmission is set up to be run as user 'nobody'. This is a special user in Linux, with the result that anyone accessing the NAS via Samba can delete/move/rename files and folders.

You _can_ run Transmission as a specific user (open the startup script transmission.sh in an editor and change "user=nobody" to "user=<your user>"

Then, only that user can modify files & folders via Samba (and on the console as well, except root of course).

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Thanks so much, KyleK.  I will reinstall using that script later in the week.  I'll run as user "nobody" from now on, to fix the permissions issue.  To uninstall funplug, I'll log into ssh as root and enter:

rm -Rf /mnt/HD/HD_a2/ffp

I saved some password data to the flash memory by  following this guide.  Should I undo that before uninstalling?

Also, by the way, how many torrents can you seed on the DNS-325 without sacrificing performance?  My sense is that just seeding many inactive torrents doesn't use many resources, but I'm not sure.

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

I don't have much experience running Transmission with a lot of running torrents.
I know that my old device (the DNS-323) did struggle when you had 10+ torrents, especially large ones. The speed you can upload/download also impacts performance (with very high speeds Transmission has a lot of work to do).

The DNS-325 has much better hardware, especially the 4x RAM provide quite some power.
I'd say give it a try with 50 files or so and see what happens (you can use the tools 'top' or 'htop' (the latter is available in some slacker repository) to see how the system performs).

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

It doesn't matter where you put them on the NAS, but funpkg needs to know the correct location.
If you downloaded the packages with a desktop browser and then copied them (via Samba?) to the NAS, the files are most likely located at /mnt/HD/HD_a2 or /mnt/HD/HD_b2.
You can also search for the files:

Code:

$ find / -type f -name "*curl*.txz"
$ find / -type f -name "*Transmission*.txz"

Of course, logging into the NAS via ssh and using 'wget' to download the files will work as well.

Using wget on the console would be another option, of course.

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Thanks Kylek.
I moved them using Windows -> Computer -> network ->MyDLink and place them at a top most directory ( like we place files:  funplug + funplg.tzx for the first step to install funplug first time ) Do we have to declare somethings?
Another question : do you mind if we translate your tutor to Vietnamese language ? Of course the credit will be your
Have a nice day !

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

@KyleK i wonder how do we add ( install ) transmission-remote - gui like :http://code.google.com/p/transmisson-remote-gui/downloads/list .I heard it can  do a lot off stuff like

* Native application for Windows and Linux (need Mac OS X version?)
* uTorrent-like interface
* Torrents filtering by status and tracker
* Resolving of peer's host name and country
* Displaying of peer's country flag
* Tray icon and balloon tooltips when download is complete.
* Association with .torrent files.
* Selectable download folder when adding new torrent.
* Select files to download
* Choose files priority
* View details about connected peers
* Full information about each torrent
* Per torrent options

Thanks in advance
Have a nice day.

You just install it on your PC, and configure it (IP, port, user-name/passowd) to connect to Transmission.
You can also consider http://code.google.com/p/transmission-remote-dotnet/

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

Hey Kylek,

I noticed something about transmission. I've set Transmission to move files from a "working" folder to the "main" folder once it's done downloading. I've got permission problems when the torrent contains a folder. When it contains a single file, it works properly and i can cut or copy the file. But when it's a folder I can't cut or copy or modify it in anyway. Is this a bug? I've had to chmod -R 777 to modify the files.

I use that feature myself. It works fine for both folders and single files.
It probably is some permissions (chmod) or ownership (chown) problem on your end.

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

I have a strange problem - seeding torrents are being removed randomly from the list of torrents as viewed in the web interface - the files themselves are not being touched. I have to keep re-adding the torrents if I want to keep them seeding - then the data is verified before the torrent is added again.

I have a DNS-323 with FFP v0.5 and Transmission 2.52.

Any ideas what could be going wrong?

Are you running some completion script that gets called when a torrent finishes?
What does the log file say?

Re: [REL] Transmission 1.3

I followed the instructions (if I remember rightly) at http://dns323.kood.org/dns-320#installa … ith_addons - although I haven't installed automatic yet. I don't know about any completion script being run - but this http://pastebin.com/Z5Gu8t7B is my torrent_utils.sh

Thanks for alerting me to the log file ffp.log - the last few lines of it are http://pastebin.com/zMWH0NCU - it obviously has a problem with the non-existence of the watch directory, so I've now created a watch directory and will wait to see what happens.

That script has a variable REMOVE_COMPLETED set to 1. Without diving further into the script code, that very muh looks to me like the culprit.

@FunFiler, scaramanga

Weird. It's working correctly? I've checked the and the owner is still nobody and allaccounts. The only difference is the permissions are different for a folder. Do you think i can what's causing this in a log somewhere?
